Default Dubai Sheema Classic: Who Do You Like For Second to Last.....

......now that last has been wrapped up?

According to DRF......

* San Luis Obispo Handicap winner Spring House has been invited to Dubai for the $5 million Sheema Classic on March 29, according to trainer Julio Canani. He said Garrett Gomez would ride Spring House in the 1 1/2-mile turf race. Owned by R.D. Hubbard, Spring House has won 6 of 30 in his career.

They may need a search party, complete with flashlights and/or miner's hats, to find him.

Spring House will not run last...and I say that as someone who always discounts American turf horses in that race.

He's a lot better than some think.

Is Pletcher going to try to get cute and send Sunriver or some other horse that will be eaten alive? If he does, that will be the last place finisher.

According to the ERA site(s), AP Arrow is his only runner DWC day.

Excerpt...

A. P. Arrow, who apparently will be the only representative of leading American trainer Todd Pletcher in Dubai this year, worked on Sunday at Palm Beach Downs in Florida, covering five furlongs in 1:01.60 over a dirt surface rated fast. The move was the fastest of five at the distance.

With several years of experience sending horses to Dubai, including five in 2007, Pletcher said he intends to get most of A. P. Arrow’s serious work done before he ships. Then, the chestnut would either gallop up to the 2,000-meter race or have just a light breeze at Nad Al Sheba Racecourse.

“He’s obviously an older horse and well traveled so I feel like he’ll handle it,” Pletcher said. And with his strong closing style, “I would think the long stretch (at Nad Al Sheba) would suit him very well.”

And you would think wrong - it's one of the more speed friendly dirt tracks there are.

But I would think Pletcher already knows that and is just trying to make a rational sounding case.

No.

I would bet Spring House enthusiastically in a turf marathon against any lineup of American turf horses right now.

I don't think Sunriver would leave his stallion barn to make the trip.
