No dime supers for the Derby
I posted this on another thread, but figured I'd put this up on a seperate thread for people trying to formulate their betting strategies already:
No dime supers for the Derby/Oaks days... dime supers for other days a CD.. "NOTE: Trifecta and Superfecta wagering on all races that qualify under Kentucky statutes. Daily Double, Pick-3, Pick-4 and Super High-5 wagers are $1 minimum straight bets. On Oaks Day and Derby Day the Superfecta is a $1.00 minimum wager. The Pick-6 is a $2 minimum wager all days. Also, Over/Under wagering will be offered on all races that qualify. Super High-5 wagering will be offered on selected races." Here's the wagering menu for Oaks/Derby days: http://www.churchilldowns.com/racing...mes-wager-menu

I agree with no 10 cent supers on the Kentucky Derby for this reason.........
On a day when it is hard to get a bet in without waiting god knows how long at your local track, otb etc imagine how bad it could be if you had every Tom, Dick and Harry coming out of the woodwork on top of all the 1 day a year bettors playing 10 cent supers on the Derby. It is a players as well as teller's nightmare. No thanks, some things are best left alone and this race does not need 10 cent super money in the pool for sure. |

I'm sure Churchill made this decision exactly for the reason that it's Derby Day and they considered the havoc a bet like this could ( and probably would ) create at the track. However, it is a very poor business decision overall and maybe they should have allowed it everywhere BUT the track. I would imagine that a high percentage of the on-track patrons who were genuinely upset about a decision like that already have ADW accounts and would have had the ability to make their dime supers either over the phone or on-line before going to the races ( Derby betting begins Friday ).
Feels a little short-sighted to me.

I like playing Dime Supers, but I agree with this decision. I've said before and I'll say it again, imagine what the lines will be like at the Spa with NYRA now offering this wager.

Why would it take more time to punch in .10 supers versus $1 supers? Does it take longer to say "ten cents than one dollar"? There is an hour between posttime of the Woodford and the Derby. I find it hard to believe that there is not enough time to get bets in.

While I tend to agree with you, the counter argument would be that a dime super player rates to be less sophisticated. I could also argue that the opposite is true in that case as well. The more legitimate argument is that the dime super player rates to play many more combinations/tickets. Either way I don't agree they should be curtailed.

The bottom line is this. The people with alot of cash to not want to share the big hits with people who will be spending 500-1000 rather than thousands so they can keep all the cash for themselves. money going to money.... big surprize. I still dont understand the difference between an 700000 dollar super and maybe a 500000 for every dollar. just plan old greedyness. What else is new?
