Default Little Brother starting his training

Nicanor, Barbaro’s full brother, was recently transferred from Florida to Maryland, where he will be under the supervision of the trainer Michael Matz.

Might see him run his first race this fall.

” Gretchen Jackson said. “I’ve gone down twice to see him since he got to Fair Hill. It’s fun to be down there, fun to be around him. When I see him, there is a certain happiness and sadness combined. It’s a very emotional thing for me. When I see him, I like to rub my hands down his legs. It makes me feel like I’m back in touch with Barbaro.”

He really is, and you know this game... he could be nothing. Not really fair.

I don't think he knows he's under pressure, or the microscope.

TRANSCRIPT OF NICANOR'S SESSION WITH HIS THERAPIST:

Nicanor: So anyway, I've just been feeling a lot of pressure lately. My career debut didn't go that well. I mean, I finished 2nd on the grass at Calder in a field of 12, but I get the feeling people want to see me on the dirt. And I was 2-5, so I let down a lot of bettors too.

Therapist: Who is pressuring you?

Nicanor: The Jacksons. They haven't said anything, but I can tell I am supposed to fill my big brother's shoes.

Therapist: Oh. You have a brother?

Nicanor: Had. He's dead. He won the Kentucky Derby.

Therapist: I see. And, you feel like you are expected to follow in his hoof steps?

Nicanor: Kinda.

Therapist: What about your trainer? Is he pressuring you?

Nicanor: No. He's cool. He's the one who suggested I debut on the grass. But those damn Jacksons fought him every step of the way. Like I said, the pressue is killing me.

Therapist: Ok. I think I see the problem here. I'm gonna prescribe some anti-anxiety medication for you, as well as a nice, relaxing Maiden Special Weight at Gulfstream. Let's go for a one-turn mile on the dirt. How's that sound?

Nicanor: Dirt? No. No. I want to stay on the grass. Now you're pressuring me.

Therapist: Come on, son. It's already December, and you have yet to break your maiden. The Kentucky Derby is less than six months away. Let's get going.

I respectfully disagree. Considering how short most racing careers are these days and how difficult it is becoming for the sport to capture the public's attention, I think Nicanor is an interesting story worth covering.

I didn't say he would revive the sport. I said his story is worth covering.

Yo, you're just insensitive.

Some of us are interested in the game for the handicapping challenges.

Others have this man-horse love thing going on. They just need to stay on top of every little thing that happens in their horse's life.

Puzzles the **** out of me, as well.

You wake up in the middle of the night yelling out your favorite horse's name, don't you?

This horse has Aristocrat written all over him. Tough to live up to the hype.

I don't think many people follow him because they expect him to be great, but rather because he is a part of the whole Barbaro story. His fans will luv him no matter what he does on the track. In that sense there is no pressure at all.

if he's slow, they'll retire him and pull in stud fees due to his bloodline. no way he'd run for a tag.
