Navy cites smoking as cause of $70 million carrier fire

Smoking appears to have sparked a fire that caused $70 million in damage to the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington, Naval officials said Wednesday.

the interesting part is the loss of command afterwards. the navy doesn't f around.

people are held to account in the service. something happens on your watch and it's your responsibility. 2 senior officer's career's ended.

it's harsh but everyone knows the rules.

An electrical anomaly as the cause would have been better for everyone. The fire investigator must have been up for promotion.
