![]() I thought that it about time we all focus on the upsides for the Breeders Cup. Maybe its too early maybe not.
My first upside ....is the weather. Its highly doubtful that it is going to "down pour" like Monmouth last year. The downside, for me, is that I did do very well with the sloppy and yelding tracks. Serious or less Serious is fine with me...I leave it to each of you to sort out which may be good upsides or not. |

![]() There is not enough upside in the world to change the biggest downside that there is. The Synthetic Pro Ride Surface.
By the way, while it was pouring in Jersey last year. Wasn't a large section of California on fire?

![]() They generally don't have to worry about rain for the BC at Santa Anita because the Cup is run during "fire season." The monsoon usually starts around Christmas, followed by "mud season" when the canyons collapse because the fires killed all the trees. If the frogs and locusts show up, I recommend leaving...
Last time I was in Cali for the Cup, the Malibu fires were so bad I could see the smoke from Santa Barbara when I took a midweek overnight trip.

Incidentally, Jay Cronley also claimed, in his most recent article, that the mud was kind to him last year at Monmouth: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/hor...jay&id=3629870

![]() The past couple of years I have gambled more on Breeders Cup day then any other day of the year. Not this year. I have averaged pushing close to $300 thru the windows on this day, this year I doubt I will push $100. One real simple reason, the surface.
Not too mention I hate the fact they have it split over two days. |

The upside is, as always, with huge numbers of fairweather fans and curious onlookers betting into the pools there will be tremendous value to be had. Especially if the more serious students of the game can find an edge with this new "fireproof" surface. Bahahahaha! |

Yes, the two-day schedule is puffed up, currently... I look at it this way: they're trying to expand their business and not doing it very smoothly. I know there will be some dilution of the product, but maybe in a few years we'll wonder what all the fuss was about (if they are successful). I still haven't figured out the Cushion Track, or PolyTrack, or Tapeta, let alone the Pro-Ride. But I'm still going to bet it, because there are opportunities to bet good horses at long odds. Churchill Downs has the Oaks on Friday and the Derby on Saturday. Breeders' Cup is trying to keep the same format in an expanded mode. I think Friday (Ladies' Day) will probably be less crazy, so I may go that day, and bet online on Saturday. Even though I live in Southern California and could go both days without too much problem (except for my dislike of crowds). |
