Going to be another fun day at the Fairgrounds!!

A few of the races are a bit thin in entries, hopefully next month will be a bit better for Risen Star day as we will be over 30 days out from the EHV-1 problem.

Weather update, very wet yesterday and today, training thunderstorms...starting to clear tomorrow..Weds and Thurs very nice no rain, only 30% and 20% chance of rain for Friday and Saturday,(which is nothing here in NOLA in the wintertime, just sporadic showers) temps in the high 60's to low 70's.

I thought Au Moon ran a good race in the nightcap on the final day at Churchill. He didn't go particularly fast or earn a high BSF (75) but he showed marked improvement from his first start, rated beautifully and responded when asked down the stretch.

General query: Why do presumedly savvy trainers put their young horses in stakes race when all they have done is beat up on non-winners, without testing them against winners? I can understand early in the 2yo season because they don't write allowance and/or conditions races for 2yos in the first half of the year anymore. But there are plenty of "non-winner of one other than" races around for new 3yos just now. WHy run them in a stakes before you know that they can handle winners? Especially when "he didn't go particularly fast or earn a high [speed figure]."?

it's all about the benjamins and gettin to the first of may....

fg fan.... gotta question for ya....

at the mile distance there is a obvious advantage on the inside....

what about when it is wet????? I really like uno mas and indygo mountain but the 19% inside posts and ZERO % post 8+ last week for the distance is a little threatening....

I have never been down there in the rain .... so your input is very highly appreciated....

Well that's a bit of a tough question. For the most part the track plays pretty fairly wet or dry, it is a sand, silt base so it can take alot of moisture, and if the rain comes in the am as they are saying can dry out very quickly. They will start where they finish on this race, so that long, long stretch doesn't apply on this race.
Interesting you bring this up as a buddy of mine there and I have been discussing there is only spot that seems to bog up and it is right about the 16th pole. Prior to Katrina that never seemed to happen, we don't know if this is a result of the flooding and how they drained it, but we have noticed it. But it is where the race ends.

Don't know if that really answers your questions, I would say this though I would place your bets later as the day progresses and see how the rain is moving thru.

I'll give an update on the weather tomorrow, but they are now saying 60% chance of rain but in the am, news is coming on now.

And here's a link to the interactive radar for NOLA, the Fairgrounds is in the triangle of the 610 and 10, if you zoom in close enough you can see the fairgrounds, it's east or right of the big park, city park.
http://www.wdsu.com/interactive-radar/index.html

And yes to PA what sniper said...graded stakes this is a G3.

Oh and by the way, you need to come down...your not that far away....

There's a guy that goes to the covington otb from Jackson.

After a long, frustrating and upsetting day...the news just gets worse with the weather for tomorrow.
Today was absolutely beautiful and Sunday will be too.
Weather update...still 60 % rain, but now the worst of it is supposed to come through between noon and 8 pm, just in time for the first post. So it looks like it will be yet another wet day at the Fairgrounds....

I would expect we will probably end up off the turf.
And to Swede's question if the track gets really wet they tend to take the middle of the track coming around that last turn through the stretch. Thing to remember is this is not the long, long stretch it will finish at the 16th pole. Also Cisco Torres is off all mounts, found today in additional x-rays he has broken his collarbone.

So Good Luck to those playing, I'm glad I have a box for tomorrow.

Well Fresian Fire beat me and looked good doing it. I think Patena was second and Au Moon was third. Running time was 1:37 and change. I didn't see what the Tiffany Lass was for the sake of comparison.
