That Posada crib must a house of guilt trips n' attitude. This is no unusual thing. Some pitchers do better with certain catchers. You would think, by now, that he'd only be considered with scoreboard.

scuds - don't forget Girardi caught for Jimmy Key in '96 , posoda caught for pettite, cone , rogers ...etc if i remember correctly ....their is some history between manager and player here as well

i would bet that cash was asked for input here and they didn't want thier pitcher not to have his guy behind the plate in game 2

And if it goes to game 5 and Burnett is pitching, what do you do then?

Matsui has been so good, that it's tough benching him at all during the series. I personally think that Girardi should tell Burnett to man up, be quiet and pitch to Posada.

It's a mistake to take Posada's bat out of the lineup.

Like the Yankees need any more bats? Pitching wins in the postseason...period. The numbers don't lie in this case and Im sure Girardi and Burnett had more than one conversation about this before it was decided.

Yeah, this is the most overrated story of the postseason. Posada will still be available to pinch hit and come in to catch once Burnett is out of the game. Plus a couple games off can only help a 38 year old catcher. Didn't the Braves always take Javy Lopez out of the lineup when Maddux pitched? And they had a lot less bats in their lineup than the Yankees.

Actually Girardi learned from Maddux when they were with the Cubs. 89 postseason Girardi was the Cubs starting catching for the season, but they let Maddux have Wrona Barrett for his games.

In Maddux's first 24 games in the Postseason with the Braves, his catcher caught 21 of them. I'm saying his catcher because there were 3 he had. None named Javy. Have to look up the first name, but Eddie Perez was #2 and Paul Bako #3. In '96, the Braves were down 3-2 to the Cards in LCS when came to the mound in Game 6. Javy was behind the plate. Not sure on the history, maybe Eddie Perez was injured. Braves won and of course went on to win the WS. Javy caught both of Maddux's WS games. In 2003, Cox basically told Maddux that Javy was going to be his catcher for the postseason in which he only made one appearance and last postseason appearance with the Braves. (a different story - I'm trying to imagine how Russ Ortiz was game 1 and 4 starter, while Smoltz and Maddux only had one start a piece in a 5 game set).

Eddie Perez held his own when he was in there.

I know what you meant but the Yankees won the world series in 1996. Braves won in 1995.

OOPS! Proofread darn it. Yes lost, but it was 1996 season that Javy caught Maddux games. They were well pitched games too, not the "we destroyed Maddux when he pitched against us," said a certain Yankee diehard.

George Costanza could catch against the Twins and the Yankees will win. Gardenhire really should be manager of the year every year. They have maybe 4 or 5 major league starter level guys (Mauer, Cuddyer, Span, Kubel and Cabreara) and and a bunch of nobodies or retreds on the P staff with the exception of Joe Nathan.

Nice job by Posada proving his worth behind the plate with two passed balls.
