Dodger Power
Is this for real? Dodgers dont have a single player with 15 or more home runs this year? A team that has won 17 of 18 and leads their division by 3.5 games has absolutely no power? Damn.

The 2 everyday guys with legit power are Betemit, and Garciaparra.Kent,Drew, and Ethier have power, but are probably better off(at Dodger Stadium for sure) not trying to force it.Kent and Drew are not what they once were in the power department.Ethier could hit a lot of home runs, but helps the team way more by being a contact in- the- gap type hitter.Dodger Stadium IS SIMPLY NOT KIND TO HOME RUN HITTERS AT NIGHT(unless you are Adrian Beltre...who still can hit them here regularly in interleague.)Thick Marine layer hurts at night. This team's best chance to get a run is for Furcal to get a single.Turn it into a double(by stealing 2nd.)Have him go to 3rd on a ground ball to the right side.Come home on the sac fly. This is what works for this team. The way they slumped is by trying for the big consecutive double, home run combo. If they keep doing what they are doing(manufacturing instead of overpowering)then, they are gunna keep doing well.Dodger Stadium is a pitcher's park. What they did last night,is the way to score runs most consistently in their park.Furcal and Lugo both are trying to get on with walks,or by slapping the ball into the gaps in the infield.Lugo has about the best eye you will ever see. These 2 are made for this park.
Here is what worked last night, and will continue to work for them(if they stick to it.) R Martin singled to left center. R Martinez sacrificed to pitcher, R Martin to second. R Furcal walked. K Lofton doubled to left, R Martin scored, R Furcal to third. N Garciaparra intentionally walked. J Drew grounded into fielder's choice to second, R Furcal scored, N Garciaparra out at second, K Lofton to third. J Kent singled to center, K Lofton scored, J Drew to second. A Ethier singled to right, J Drew scored, J Kent to third. ---------------------------------------------------------- The pitching is the biggest change on the team.Billingsley, and Broxton were simply not pitching this way.Lowe was not giving 100% concentration like this.Penney was not always hanging in there like he is.Maddux was not here.Tomko(now evidently bull pen effective) was a starter, and getting shelled.Sele(now bull pen effective) was an average starter at best. Perez was a grapefruit tumor/ cancer on this team, and got shelled every damn time. You will note that the team turned right around as soon as that f'n manure was gotten rid of.Baez blew save opportunities(he gone.)They finally cleaned the toilet(pitching wise.)Even Hendricksen has done well in 3 games(miracle..Vatican consulted to get full documentation.)He still gets in trouble, but has tried to get out of it,and before the streak ,he was simply getting lit up.Getting lit up,n' collecting checks. No doubt, still a questionable member of the rotation. 1) got rid of Perez 2)started to play better-barely losing against the Padres=team showed signs f life(almost as soon as Perez' stank was gone.)They send Baez for Furcal's buddy(Betemit.)Genius move.Furcal ain't been acting like a little btch since Betemit arrived. 3)Swept the last 3 games of the homestand( FRI,SAT.SUNDAY. against Washington.) 4)Go to Cincy Monday a.m. 5)get Lugo, and Maddux in trades Monday 6)evidently Penney was very happy, and takes team(whole damn team)for ribs on Monday night. 7)lose one game out of God knows how many |
