Default Charles Town approve table games....

.....and Maryland falls further behind.

http://www.wvgazette.com/News/200912050177

While the voters in Jefferson County gave their approval to tables games at CT yesterday, a couple pathetic creatures at Laurel Park were trying to get patrons to sign a petition to stop the Cordish Co. slots facility from being approved at Arundel Mills Mall so it can be put at Laurel instead. I assume both people sitting at the table with the petitions were Magna employees, but I'm not positive.

I stopped briefly to read the poster board they had put up, but never made it past the first two lies they listed as reasons to sign the petition. I questioned why Magna would want to stop the AM facility when the slots legislation grants millions of dollars to owners of the state racetracks for facility renewal and provides funds for increasing purses. The response I received was that of a typical company shill who clearly wasn't well informed on the issue.

Essentially, while Magna wants me to believe they want slots to help racing in MD, they only want slots to help themselves. Increased purses and facility grants will allow them to be racetracks business owners - but they don't know how to run a racing business.

The MD slots commission votes tomorrow on whether to grant a slots license to Cordish Co. at the Arundel Mills site. Later tomorrow evening, the Anne Arundel County Council votes on whether to re-zone the Arundel Mills area to allow for a slots facility. Without the re-zoning, no facility can be built on the AM site. My feeling is the AA County Council is gutless and will not allow for the re-zoning.......

How about Maryland cease 50% of its racing and 50% of the stock and horseman dispurse to Pa, NY, and any friggin place that has reasonable racing. Racing needs less dates, less races the sooner the better. Why anyone would want to promote the growth of racing thru slots is really quite bizarre. We need less not more. Sorry Md. is finished, why try and resurrect it?

Table games at Charles Town? Why would I ever go to Laurel again?

Once you go a few times, you figure things out, but you're right, they need some kind of directory there like they have at a mall to figure out where they heck you are going. They certainly don't make getting to the track/buffet/simulcast area very easy.

all apart of the master plan, that place caters nothing to horse players... you have to cross the yellow brick road to get to the track, its an afterthought to that place, its on the ass end of a gold mine. Don't make the mistake of parking valet, you'll be in a maze for 20 min. taking left and rights just to see how little space the racing part of the track takes up as compared to the casino. Elevators out of the parking garage are just as bad, just more confusing. If you're going there for horse racing i suggest parking outside just past the finish line on the first turn, you avoid ALL the casino riff raff and can walk right onto the front stretch with no hassle.

I usually just park on the roof of the old garage over by the backside and then take the stairs down and up to the casino floor. I won't lie, I definitely stop to play some slots coming back from the track once the races end at like 11:00 p.m. on most nights.

I'm trying to get a friend to come to Gulfsteam with me and she could care less about the horses, but thought it was rather cool that she could go to the Casino instead.

Lie about what? There's zero way to get to the track without first going through the casino these days unless you walk up and around from the old parking area. Sue me for putting 20 bones in a slot machine!

If you park in the parking lot on the first turn, walk down along the track and you can get in without going through the casino.

Or, park in the old garage near the paddock, walk down the step at the stables end, head towards the track and the doors for the bsaement racing offices are right there beside a loading dock area. Go up the steps inside and you are in the grandstand by the simulcast area.

Or, spend $15 to get an owner's license, park in the stable area, and walk up through the paddock.
