Default Technical advice concerning GM XM radios

Steve,

I wanted to let you know, the phone number for your radio show cannot be displayed on GM XM radios due to the non-scrolling, 16 character wide display line. What we see is:

"Call in! 1-866-45"

I fired up my Sirius radio to see the number instead, so I could call you. Yeah, I have both.

If you guys simply reversed the order to show your number first, then the "Call in" statement, that would solve the problem. There may be many people with radios of this sort who can't currently see the number.

Joe

Thx Joe.. Appreciate you bringing it up because KC is waiting for an XM unit to be delivered to the studio, so we haven't seen that side of things. I'll ask/tell NY about it. They are working on a few innovations regarding the scroll, including our potential ability to interface with it remotely so listeners can see "Steve Haskin" or "Joe in PA" as the guest or caller, etc.

No problem Steve...glad I could help. And it might be that some of the XM units scroll text, especially the portable ones. I have no idea since the only one I have used is built in my car. But the GM ones from 2007 and prior definitely don't. Their displays are basically one screen off of a touch driven menu system. Maybe that is part of the reason. Mine is also a GPS.

I would think from a software point of view that more frequent updates to the screen (like for scrolling) would require more CPU time and maybe that is at a premium due to the GPS having to update.
