SARATOGA: Alabama Day

One of our favorite "big day" races at Saratoga or anywhere else Saturday with the 126th running of the Alabama...

Friday was interesting and maddening as one missed play ruined the afternoon when Contessa's Whistlin' couldn't hold third behind Stratonic and 20-1 Lion Song in the 4th. Yes we had the $118.00 exacta, but a rare $10 trifecta bet of those three went awry when Back Door Deal passed Whistlin' and our mood went south with it... A few other modest hits on the remarkably weak card, but the day was make or break in that 4th...

10 great Alabama Day races including the feature itself with many treacherous events. Monmouth has the Iselin Saturday (rooting for Park Avenue Ball) and Del Mar their Oaks (go May Night), so it's coast-to-coast action for us fanatics. We'll go easy on the selections at Toga today having not had a chance to really disect the card deeply...

Finally, our heart goes out to Harry Aleo and Greg Gilchrist and everyone connected to Champion Lost in the Fog... His impending passing is one of the saddest stories in memory in this achingly bittersweet game...
