Default Teen Sailor in peril

This is the young woman attempting to solo circumnavigate the globe. Hope she can be rescued. She's 16. Her brother did it at 17. I can't even imagine.

Quote:
A multi-national search and rescue operation has been launched after emergency beacons onboard 16-year-old Abby Sunderland's boat were triggered when the young American adventurer ran into huge waves hundreds of kilometres from land early this morning.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) says a Qantas Airbus is heading to the search zone, which is about 3,600 kilometres from the WA coast.

AMSA spokeswoman Carly Lusk says conditions in the search area are poor, with 90 kilometre per hour winds and a six-metre swell.

She says the signals coming from the two beacons Sunderland has activated - one attached to her body and another attached to her boat - suggest she is still in the boat.

I hope they find her and send her parents the bill and execute them if they can't pay for raising an attention whore with no regard for anyone but herself.

i hope they find her and send the parents congratulations on raising a self-confident child.

Yeah that's the reason why she's an attention whore because she's in the news. Not because she's doing something that's extremely dangerous that very few people gave a s.hit about until she went missing.

i'd rather raise a kid that broke an arm climbing a tree than one afraid to climb trees.

even if there's a chance the kid gets more than a broken arm.

she's not on espn jumping over a las vegas monument on new years eve. she's sailing around the world solo.

Yeah because this is totally like climbing a tree. No big deal.

Hell two more posts from you and I might start hoping she dies.

Sorry you can't see it for what it is. This kind of dumb s.hit is why foreigners hate us.

And looking these turds up on wikipedia...

they have 7 kids...and the mother is in labor again. The boy who broke the record is the oldest.

So more than likely we'll have to read about these s.hitheads for the next 15-20 years.

Yeah I'm way off base. It's not like a high percentage of teenagers are attention whores. You never see teenagers making a scene in movie theaters, malls, etc.

It doesn't help that her parents think a vagina is a clown car and maybe I'm a little biased because they are Catholic and prefer to home school their children...but make no mistake, they wouldn't do this if they didn't receive accolades for it. And if you forced her to take a polygraph I guarantee you two of the reasons why she did it was to beat her brother and impress her parents.

What parent lets a child and she is one except in places where its ok to marry a 12 year old let either child go on a boat alone around the world . WTF ? Its one thing raising a child to be confident and brave and smart and it is a totally other thing to just feed them to the elements. Would anybody let their child hike to the South Pole alone?

attention whore 11948 up, 608 down

Label given to any person who craves attention to such an extent that they will do anything to receive it. The type of attention (negative or positive) does not matter.

You're wrong. Just shut the f.uck up.

Obviously, their attitude is that if God wants her back, then they'll make more.

16 year old kids can barely drive a car, and these parents allow their daughter to sail, alone, around the world. brilliant.

And it's found she's safe. Good news. Ship keel broken and demasted. She has heat and two weeks food, she'll be picked up.

I'm surprised so many here think age is the primary determinant of learned ability, skill and experience. Where was the outrage for Samantha Larson and Jessica Watson? Or 10-year-olds riding ATV's or using power lawn mowers?

Uhm because its the very vast ocean and no one is close by or maybe that its just stupid. Would you let your child hike to the South Pole by themselves?
