Harbinger
is a good horse - ridiculous win in the King George 11L over Irish Derby winner Cape Blanco. Workforce shows nothing - we have an awful crop of 12f 3yos..

I just don't get it, mate. We certainly have the worst bunch of 3yo's we've seen in a long time and that helps explain some of it.
We also saw a pretty bad Epsom Derby field this year. But what isn't explained is how Workforce smashed the track record that day? If he ran a moderate time and won by seven lengths, I'd be like "yeah, he's easily the best of a bad bunch" and that would explain everything. There was something about that Derby time that never made sense. He is supposed to have smashed the record, even though, visually it never looked like they went break neck pace. Also, if they really did go that fast, how has the pacemaker still held on for a place? Do we have to doubt the time produced for the Derby? Or was it merely a fluke? Nothing quite adds up. If he's the best of a bad bunch, then he still shouldn't beat a Gr1 record that has stood for a good number of years now, should he? I've never trusted a King's Best, and in that statement we might find the answer to all of the questions posed by today. Harbinger has long been a horse who has had massive wraps on him, right from the day he broke his maiden in impressive fashion at Chester. But he disappointed badly in the Great Vultiger when finishing last and everything seemed lost. His female pedigree is that of a horse who will improve with age/time and that certainly looks to be the case. But rather like was the case for Workforce's derby victory, he has done that far too easily to be true for my liking and I'll be treating the form with plenty of caution until I finally get what is happening around my head.

Well, I live the other side of the world, and all I know is that she isn't here. I've not heard from her in a few days - but I'm sure she is enjoying some well earnt rest and no doubt she will be catching up with all things horse racing and sex related soon.
If I happen to hear from her, I'll be sure to let you know, mommy's boy.

Racing Post... Harbinger 'a long shot' to return after fracturing cannonbone Harbinger: connections hope he might be able to return next season By Graham Dench 3:49PM 7 AUG 2010 HARBINGER was described as "a long shot" to return to racing after he suffered a condylar fracture of his near-fore cannonbone (front left shin) following exercise in Newmarket on Saturday morning. Harry Herbert, managing director of owners Highclere, described the news as a "bitter blow" to the horse's many fans while his King George jockey Olivier Peslier said he was "very, very disappointed". Harbinger had been working over seven furlongs on the Limekilns gallop in Newmarket with stablemate Ask when suffering the injury. The son of Dansili, who is rated the best horse in the world following his record-breaking King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, was undergoing surgery on the injury on Saturday afternoon. The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old looks set to miss the remainder of the season but connections still hope that he may be able to return next season. John Warren, director of Highclere Thoroughbred Racing and the purchaser of Harbinger as a yearling, said on Saturday afternoon: "The burning question is whether he will race again. It's a long shot but he is just about to go into surgery and I'll have more ideas in the next hour or so. Harry Herbert: "It is a bitter blow" "It's a condylar fracture of his near-fore cannonbone and it will require two screws. It's not life-threatening and he's comfortable." In a later statement, Highclere managing director Harry Herbert said: "This is a bitter blow for all twelve of Harbinger's owners and indeed all who are closely concerned with the horse, as well as his many fans for whom he has become an icon following his amazing King George victory. "A decision as to Harbinger's future will be taken imminently." Peslier, whose only ride on Harbinger was his 11 length win in the King George last month, said: "I'm very, very disappointed to hear the news. "For a jockey, winning the King George is always special, but winning on Harbinger was, very special, because he broke the track record and he beat a good field by 11 lengths." Following the news Rip Van Winkle was made 11-8 favourite for the Juddmonte International at York by Coral and Paddy Power. Fame And Glory is 5-2 favourite for the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe while Coral go 3-1. http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse-racing/ |

Yeah. The good news though is he was apparently "comfortable" after surgery so here's hoping he has a long life.
