Default Secretariat: The Movie, Whoa!

They had a sneak peak one show only at 8pm at the AMC Barrington.

IT WAS GREAT!

Not gonna do any spoilers but the whole place left there clapping. And more importantly there was probably only 20 seats empty in the theatre we were in. It was packed. I will say that you have to watch it for the story because people will bitch about them filming the Belmont at Keeneland. It will get you all fired up.

Complete mix of people, including running into three Arlington junkies. LOL.

It is a must see IMO.

Belmont filmed at Keeneland?

It better be Citizen Kane good to overcome that.

Had he run his Belmont over the Kee poly, he'd have finished last by 50.

Scratch that, he'd have DNF'd.

Gotta love dirt, right SC Fan?

Listen Rosebud. No one cares if your panties are in a bunch about Keeneland/Belmont. It's a terrific movie that the masses are gonna adore. Go Secretariat!!!

Eh... the fact that the Cleveland Municipal Stadium scenes were shot in Milwaukee hardly ruined "Major League."

Try to lighten up and enjoy yourselves once in awhile. Why some racing fans are so dead-set on hating this movie I'll never understand.

If they made a movie about disc golf, I wouldn't care if the DeLaveaga Masters Cup scenes were shot in someone's backyard. Believe it.

Thanks Scav cause i really don't want to know if he wins or not till I see it.

Glad you had a good time and yeah I'll be seeing it regardless of whatever liberties are taken, etc.

Seabiscuit came out in July of 2003. I didn't see it till the fall but then early the next year I heard about Smarty and began folloing him just a little.

After the Derby? I was completely hooked.

I'm not saying this will bring in new fans but it will expose people who have never had an interest of any kind to our sport and that's a good thing.

I live in LA where everyone is a critic, an up-and-coming triple threat, so many are jaded so really... it was refreshing to read your post.

I am not very excited about it because I thought the preview for it looked pretty horrible. I enjoyed Seabiscuit, but this movie looks very Disney-fied and horrendous from what I've seen.

I hope I'm wrong and Scav is right.

You wouldn't think it was Disney one bit.

The film isn't historically correct, so purists can easily find fault - but I'm sure the masses will love it, and it will place horse racing in the spotlight. A good thing we should be grateful for.

Besides the inaccuracies, I don't know if I could ever forgive Disney for making Secretariat look like a little sissy. I've seen more impressive looking crippled claimers at Colonial.

I haven't thought the ads showed a horse that really looked like Secretariat, but it's next to impossible to find one that has the "it" that he did even if they had a similar body. I don't know how close Baffert's horse would've been.

As for Keeneland as Belmont, I know those that really follow the sport are unhappy about it, but a lot of people will just see pretty horsie + pretty racetrack and be fine with it. Sad state of affairs that something like that will blow right past many of them, but that's just what I expect will happen.

I'm gonna go see it, and I'm gonna tell other people to go see it.

You mean Secretariat never raced against and lost to Zenyatta in the Breeders Cup?

Zenyatta changed her tactics in that race - and opened up a big early lead out of the gate.

Secretariat - was closing fast on the outside - but missed.

Zenyatta used that race as a prep for the Indy 500 - which she won in a tight photo next time out.

It was refershing to see John Shirreffs run Zenyatta against real competition - Big Red and Indy Cars - instead of Dance to My Tune and Taptam.

You don't think Gio Ponti or Switch are as fast as Big Red or an Indy Car?

I guess this is one of the "spoilers" that Scav didn't want to give away.

I'm getting anxious to see what happens over the next few days - as the mainstream reviews roll out -- and then next weekend when the film opens... Because I was hardly impressed by it, and that was completely excusing the racing-related gaffes. I certainly don't agree at all that "You wouldn't think it was Disney one bit." I think it has Disney written all over it. I found it hokey and I thought the (limited) budget showed (Evangeline for Saratoga???).

So my prediction is for a short, undistinguished theater-run.

But, I'll be happy to be wrong. And clearly some of the early reviews are in disagreement with me.

So this next week should prove interesting.
