Default LeftyLenytheLegend

I was amused that Lenny Shulman had another namesake. Still waiting to see the horse named for Haskin. I heard he looked like Secretariat. I decided to see what Lefty had to offer us in the way of pedigree because his dam's name, Regal Pennant, sounded familiar. He's by Flower Alley and, it turns out, is a half-brother to the dam of Rockport Harbor. Also half to the filly Regally Appealing, the winner of the G2 Adirondack and 2nd in the G2 Davona Dale sandwiched between Cash Run and Secret Status. She had a couple other GS placings and another stakes win. Why did a few of the other KY Cup races get graded but not the juvies, mile, etc?

Anyway, go Leny! He's a pretty boy. Lenny quipped that it was his Derby horse. It's one completely ridiculous name that I'd love to see in the winner's circle the first Saturday in May, I gotta admit.

The new 'Lenny' horse is a featured in this weeks edition of "And They're Off" with Shulman and Haskin. (At Bloodhorse.com by the way...) For those that haven't watched, it's always a hoot. Lenny Shulman is likely the funniest person involved in racing media. Has written for many stand-up comedians. I have a hard time believing the 'Derby Gods' are going to greenlight Lenny and Jerry Jamgotchian to the roses...

Hmm, it appears the Derby gods didn't let Lefty get as far as his 3yo year before letting the air out of them tires. He was 10th of 12 at Keeneland. If you want to see his race, there's a video replay link: http://www.keeneland.com/racing/frames/results.aspx He was in race 6. You have to sign up. I could've sworn I did, but I can't remember my ID/password at the moment so I'll check back later.
