Didn't see the race yet,,,,,I'm guessing he *did not* like the turf?? Either that or something bad happened. Anyone know the scoop? I just see that he finished 9th of 9.

I'm not a fan of PD to begin with, but as I said in my post the other day, he didn't figure to run well on the grass at all. A horse needs to have a quick turn of foot to compete on the grass. PD doesn't have a quick turn of foot. On a turf course like Del Mar or Hollywood, they will often run the last 1/8th of a mile in :11 or so. PD just can't come home like that.

there are a few thunder gulchs who have run on turf, but it doesn't seem to be a pedigree that would scream 'turf' at you! not that that really matters--lots of supposed turf horses can't stand the stuff.

Bob Baffert isn't exactly Frankel or Drysdale when it comes to training turf horses these days either.

Gulch and Thunder Gulch have sired G1 winners on turf, however they needed turf-bred mares to do it. Point Given has a good turf runner in his first crop, Go Between, but that one is out of an Irish-bred (ie turf) mare by Caerleon. Point Determined's female side is all dirt.
