![]() Opening night tonight!
The powerhouse combo of George Iacovacci and Kristen Spanabel is 7/2 on the morning line with a horse first off a year and a half layoff in the nightcap. All of the old running lines coming for trainer Eric Reed. Look for the horse to a run a Beyer of 4. Race 8 is a classic battle between Alchemists and Gyps. First the black corner.... The rail is trained by Chris Englehart - that one caught wide on Feb 9th at AQU last out. The two-hole is trained by one-time Golden Syringe winner - "The American Dream" Doug Shanyfelt. And in the three hole - a man whos juice needs no introduction the world over. Scooter "the shooter" Davis. And in the red corner.... Starting from the four-hole - with an off-form 10-year-old Michigan bred - here is Alan "the executioner" Crago And in the five-hole - a trainer who's every claim goes way backwards. Here is Richard "move-down" Markham Bernardini will be your ref in this contest. He'll split them. Race #7 will be a lot of fun. It's a MSW with a 17K purse featuring a field of ten. Nine of them have races under there belt - all horrible races - and those same 9 are all trained by ultra low-percentage types. Yes, a 4-year-old Pennsylvania bred first-time-starter by Changeintheweather with a Beulah Park worktab is the 6/5 morning line favorite. As for the jockeys - Parker owns that place - but it's great to see 'The best that never was' Jason Lumpkins on the morning line favorite in the opener. I do realize that the Oprah Winfrey network is doing an hour special tonight - on a town of Sex Offenders living in a Florida campsite - but that's why DVR's were created. I'm sorry - but this is real horse racing here folks. If you're not betting this and watching this tonight - you suck. |

![]() was almost a shame when Iacovacci/Spanabel got put up on a dq I think it broke an 0 for 400 losing streak

![]() Iacovacci/Spanabel product finished 9th of 10 in the finale at 5-1. Good news is she beat the last horse by over 20 lengths. Comment line said she "dropped back, labored." I would say beyer of 4 looks pretty close.

![]() Yeah - that Beyer should come back in the -0 to 4 range.
That's the beauty of Mountaineer - big fields, decent pool sizes, and its fair share of races where you can safely eliminate about four horses from even being competitive for an in-the-money finish ... and sometimes a few of those horses will go off single digit odds. It makes the game easier to beat and doesn't demand the player to put up a Herculian effort trying to beat it. Not surprisingly - Scooter Davis won the Juice trainer fest race and his two good competitors took the silver and bronze. The exacta paid $15 - but the trifecta only paid $18. Get the feeling people just boxed away at the trifecta to collect $9 and change for every $6. Nothing like gobbling up 1/2 or 3/5 odds on a successful trifecta box. |
