Worst 6K ever spent?
Believe it or not - the owner just spent 6k to make this horse a late triple crown series supplamented nom....
A supposed 500K yearling - who is still owned by his breeder. Why not just light 120 fifty-dollar bills on fire to see what color the flame makes? |

I google'd the owner/breeder ... his wife divorced him and got a $123.6 million settlement.
What a weird friggen horse. Who breeds to the sire Encosta De Lago (huh?) - and buys the horse from themselves for 500K as a yearling - only to nominate them late to the triple crown series off of a 4.5 furlong win at Mountaineer Park? |

Probably trying to impress his woman by taking her to the Derby. Usually stupid decisions like this one are made because of some trim.

Watch the horse show up on the undercard. That should get him at least a couple motorboats. |

That's a breeding you would see commonly in England or Ireland.

I thought the owner/breeder might have taken him back once Baffert was no longer the trainer, but Fipke owned him from start #1.

No - I figured he just had a mare imported all the way from Australia who was like the Montbrook of Aussie sires.

I remember when this owner broke into the game by buying a 2million 2yo at the Barrets sale a couple of years ago with Baffert. Cant recall his name, but ran about 6 races in 3 years. He's definately has deep pockets///

Yeah - Diamond Fury for $2.7 million ... Baffert absolutely took him to the school yard on that one.
A Tactical Cat filly worked faster at both 1f and 2f - than the $2.7 million Sea of Secrets - in two seperate under-tack previews that year. The Tactical Cat filly ended up being stakes winner Fashion Girl. Diamond Fury was 3-for-17 lifetime and never earned black type. How that horse - sired by Sea of Secrets - ever reached $2.7 million is one of those good stories we'll never know .. but I'm sure someone other than just the seller had a picnick off of that one. |
