Default Oaks/Derby Double?

If you guys were given 50 dollars to play the Oaks/Derby double, 5 x 5

What would you play? I'm thinking about putting something together, but wondering if, first: it's worth playing and second: who is worth playing to maximize my 50 bucks. Any thoughts or opinions are much appreciated!

jag,

Play Gus ("Bogey") Alonso's Oaks-Derby Double. He'll post it tonight I'm sure. He has had a tremendous run of success building the KO-KD play.

Thanks Kasept, Appreciate it. I will keep an eye out tonight. I'm just debating to myself if its worth playing or not. I do not know too much about this years oaks crop, other than there's 13 horses and a few contenders. Haven't even glanced at the PP's yet.

I'd certainly listen to Bogey before listening to me but my take is that the Oaks is going to fall apart and the Derby won't. I could be wrong in either (or both) cases, but I would lean more in the direction of closers in the Oaks.
If you are really looking to play 5X5, I'd go:

1 - Joyful Victory
4 - Kathmanblu
6 - Zazu
12 - Plum Pretty
13 - St John's River

with

1 - Archarcharch
8 - Dialed In
13 - Mucho Macho Man
14 - Shackleford
18 - Uncle Mo (if he doesn't scratch, Midnight Interlude if he does)

Oh, and my wager will be the five mentioned above in the Oaks with Shackleford and Dialed In.

Do you think shackleford will rate just behind Comma to the Top and Soldat? I like him, too, just wondering if he can make the distance. Hmmm

Tough to know.
His dam has already produced a 10f, G1 winner which is a good sign and - more importantly - he has looked pretty good at 9f on more than one occasion.
I could be wrong and the pace may end up being too quick early and he may fold up in the final furlong, but I think he remains my #1 pick.

Thanks Steve and Mclem, now I only have to avoid the Whammy. It's been a personal favorite bet for me because the success I've had the last few years. The Original plan was to single R Heat Lightning and go deep in the Derby. As we all know, horseplayers have to make adjustments on the fly. Here we go.

Oaks/Derby Double

FRI - R11 - Kentucky Oaks

#12 Plum Pretty (5-1) WON $14.60
#4 Kathmanblu (4-1)
#13 St. John's River (30-1)
#1 Joyful Victory (5-2)
#6 Zazu (4-1)

SAT - R11 - G1 Kentucky Derby

#19 Nehro (6-1)
#16 Animal Kingdom (30-1)
#8 Dialed In (4-1)
#14 Shackleford (12-1)
#17 Soldat (12-1)

$1 Oaks/Derby Double - 1 4 6 12 13 / 8 14 16 17 19 = $25

$2 Oaks/Derby Double - 4 12 13 / 8 16 19 = $18

$10 Oaks/Derby Double - 4 12 / 19 = $20

Good Racing Luck

Bigjag, I posted this on your post despite your Giants beating up on my Mets this week.

Why was it always cold at Candlestick Park? Because they had Giant Fans.

The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Fransico before I moved to Chicago.

Hey Bogey, you're the man. Honestly, I was kind of leaning that same way myself, with you're picks, so I think I will follow it, or adjust one horse or so. Are you set on that double? I think the only derby pick I am debating on changing from what you posted is taking a chance and taking out either nehro or dialed in for midnight interlude. Just taking a chance, derby style.

Hey now, we only took 2 out of 3. Can you guys deal us Reyes? The Giants will gladly deal a pitching prospect or too. Hmmm...thanks for the stick comment, those nights, even though I was only a little kid, were a killer, but very fond memories. That ocean wind from out in candlestick point was no joke.

Good luck my friend.

Hey Gus, you built the track record we're just praising it my friend, no whammy intended. I love the approach this year as well. Best of Luck as always.
