If you show me yours, I'll show you.....
..... some of my favorites.
I was thinking about Charles Bukowski, since Moodwalker brought him up in a post..... "Some people never go crazy. What truly horrible lives they must live." So I thought I'd ask... what are some of your favorite quotes, lines, lyrics, sayings? I'll let someone else go first. |

my dad always tells me that he can accomplish anything with 'a little brute force and ignorance' and he's pretty much right.

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.
~if anybody knows the movie I'd be impressed but words to live by indeed |

An ancient Chinese proverb that reminds me of Ace.....
Failure is not falling down but refusing to get back up again. From Life of Brian... every line in the Pontius Pilate scene. Last edited by my miss storm cat : 09-13-2006 at 01:42 PM. |

oh, and one other.....my brother and i used to work with our father, a full time policeman but did construction work on the side.
at any rate, whenever one of us did something incredibly stupid, he would say (oh and this isn't the most p.c. thing you'll ever read) hire the handicapped, they're fun to watch....of course i think he said a bit more than that the time my brother pushed a 2x4 on top of a pile of lumber in the truck right thru the back glass in the truck cab!!

Is it so bad, then, to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.--Ralph Waldo Emerson
Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.--Ralph Waldo Emerson Every man I meet is in some way my superior.--Ralph Waldo Emerson People only see what they are prepared to see.--Ralph Waldo Emerson Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men and women to win them. --Anonymous This is my favorite one.... “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”--Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Here are some that I like;
“All roads lead to the same place” My father, when accused of being lost while driving the family somewhere. I always thought it was cool and only later on figured out that by “ same place” he probably meant “wherever you are going” “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall” Ronald Reagan, great leaders say the right thing, in the right manner, at the right time. Reagan did it many times but this is my favorite. “Lucky is the man who is the first love of a woman, but luckier is the woman who is the last love of a man” Unknown, but I think there is some truth to it. |

"Saddest thing in life is wasted talent" - A Bronx Tale (great movie)
"2nd place is just the 1st loser" - Heard George Steinbrenner say something to this effect once. "Hey, why don't you go f#ck a rolling donut" - This old guy Frank I used to work with would throw this line out there when someone pissed him off. Classic lines used to come out of this guy's mouth on a regular basis. |
