No opinion on the race but I do think it is very cool that the Boys and Girls Club is a sponsor.

I took the time to call and try to get some info on this race. J. Kenneth Self was the Director of the Shelby County (Shelbyville) Boys Club from 1959 to 1982. The track decided to name the race after him and the Employees and Board of Directors come to present the winner’s trophy every year.

They couldn’t give me any info as to how the tie in started but they thought it was great that Indy Downs did it and also that a national radio show would “love” the name so much.
