14 races?!

They haven't always had that many on Florida Derby day, have they?

I'm confused. Did NBC Sports just say Cairo Prince hasn't run in 118 days? He ran in the Holy Bull on Jan 25 which they mentioned as well so they got that part right. They referenced the number of days and then said 4 months later on in that segment. Did they mean another horse? Cairo Prince was on the screen, and could've sworn they were referring to him.

Cairo Prince ran like a horse who was not fit or tough enough to win a race like the Florida Derby. Since the prevailing wisdom of horse trainers is to race less I have no idea if McLaughlin and Godolphin were using the Florida Derby as STIFF CONDITIONING exercise.

His 20 something points may leave him looking at the Derby from the outside.

he's supposed to peak for the derby. they know what they have. 20 pts. should be enough.

I don't think McLaughlin cared too much about winning the Florida Derby. Cairo Prince's pattern resembles Closing Argument in 2005, and that colt ran just fine in the Derby. 20 something points will be good enough.
