the article mentions the giant's causeway (of course, it being a bbc article) but it also reminds me of our Devil's Tower right here in america, also with the basalt columns.

Kinda like Devil's Postpile near Mammoth Lakes in Bishop CA. Spent some wondrous nights there in the summer of 1972. Anyone been to the Hot Springs there?????
