ROI Results 12/1 @ Aqueduct / HD
Well it's time for the Aqueduct / Hollywood Derby ROI Recap for Saturday. There it is. Easy as pie.
No winners and no winning bets. An east coast to west coast sweep by Aqueduct and Del Mar. Ruffian came close with a few longshot bombs that finished second. A tough day all around. Hopefully Don will pick a venue where winners abound. Following are the unofficial results pending a swing and miss on my part. See you all next week. Indian Hemp -$76.00 Don Guido -$85.00 Joly B -$96.00 Roamin -$100.00 NJ Stinks -$100.00 Ruffian -$100.00 Cal828 -$100.00 Plenilune -$100.00 Real Quiet -$100.00 Cruzan -$100.00 El Prado -$100.00

Although second place money is better than NUTTIN!!! And there's always W/P. But then again when you hit one of your fanciful feline or wild & wacky wagers, you need a Cyber Mac Truck to carry home!!!

Fanciful Felinus
(DON)
“... But then again when you hit one of your fanciful feline or wild & wacky wagers, you need a Cyber Mac Truck to carry home!!!“ ITS ALL ABOUT FELINES....GRAYS...SIRES Have never bothered with past performance, trainer, or jockey WIN SOME ~ LOSE SOME Of course I lose a lot more than I win But at least it’s not REAL money Now and then when I have Wagered for real... IT PAID OFF BODACIOUSLY SARAVA 70/1 GIACOMO 50/1 ONE DREAMER 47-1 THUNDER GULCH 26-1 I used to Go to a Private Turf Club every Saturday Members were mostly big-time businessman making huge bets Every time A GRAY horse or LONGSHOT Won a race I could hear the men sitting behind me murmuring “... oh Cat probably has that one” So of course how could I resist that temptation Of holding the winning ticket up in the air With a grandiose grin on my feline face! |

I still wince when I hear the name of Sarava and Thundergulch. I have done some pretty dumb things at the racetrack before, but probably none as dumb as with these 2 horses. I remember Sarava's race all too well. That was the year that it looked like Baffert might have the triple crown winner.
I considered Sarava and thought well, it might be a good idea to throw a place ticket on him and that wasn't the worst of it because he paid $50 bucks to place, but I also put a straight up exacta on him under Medaglia D'Oro and I imagine you know how they finished. On Thundergulch, I remember that one all too well too. Was sharing a table with a lady at Oaklawn and she asked me who I liked. I said, "I like Thundergulch, but nobody else does, so I guess I'll pass." But I guess, I've had a few winners too like Charasmatic and I was all over Pleasantly Perfect when he won the BC Classic and Drosselmeyer when he won the Belmont and some others I can't remember. Can't think of the maiden winner that Lukas won the Belmont with, but I had him too. |

Charismatic Cat
(CAL) “...few winners too like Charasmatic
I HAD CHARISMATIC = BUT HE WAS ONLY 17/1 What I find amazing is my “SELECTIVE MEMORY” I can’t remember the name of somebody I met last week {Probably Because They Don’t Have 4 Legs + Tails!} Yet...I can remember horses that I bet on in the 1990s |

in the Derby and still fairly long odds in the Preakness like 10-1 maybe, but maybe you are talking about another race. |

I can't remember to get a loaf of bread in the morning but you guys remember horses that ran 18 years ago. No wonder I'm at a disadvantage (although I remember my first big score on Pass Catcher).

Yes that might be what you are remembering. Poor old Charismatic didn't get much respect from anybody. As I recall, Lukas was sitting with the owners of Cat Thief when Charismatic won. It's strange to look back on that race. I may not be remembering right, but seems like Charismatic had a Beyer speed figure of 108 before the Derby and he was a longshot. If he had a figure like that in today's race, he'd be 1 to 10.

I do recall that Charismatic went off as a very generous overlay. Recall even more how heroic Chris Antley was in helping his injured horse in the Belmont. |

Yes, he did that Lexington/Derby thing well. Also, ran 2nd with Proud Citizen in War Emblem's Derby after winning the Lexington. I don't recall the Lexington having much relevance lately. To be fair about him sitting with Cat Thief's owner, if that really happened or is just an apocryphal memory on my part, in those days, he was like Bob Baffert or Chad Brown of today. He had an embarrassment of riches in horses and probably had to spread himself a bit thin among the owners of multiple entries.
