Default ROI Results 3/2 @ Gulfstream

It was a very profitable day at the windows for a few players. Probably our best overall day of
the season. Race 9 derailed it from being even better. Gulfstream Park spread some of that
Fountain of Youth magic to a few players. 10 tickets were cashed and all four payout slots
were filled. Zippy cashed 3 tickets but fell short of profitability. NJ Stinks gets fourth place via
the Daily Double which he hit twice. NJS found a good way to get value on Kingsbarns and
wound up $94.20 to the good. Cruzan Pounced on a $20 winner and gets third with a nice
profit of $150, a lot of times that figure would lead the pack. I would be remiss if I didn't
challenge Ruffian's statement on not betting Pounce. She said, "M L = Too Low For This
Fussy Feline". A 20-1 morning line. Really Ruff? Too Low? Your standards must be Colorado
sky high. But I digress. Nice pick Cruzan on a 20-1 ML horse. Real Quiet gets the second
spot with exacta's in races 4 and 13 for a $374 profit. But we all ran into a buzzsaw this
week. Cal hit two trifecta's with an array of only 3 horses. He singled out the 20-1 Pounce on
one of his arrays and the tri was $39.20 for each 50 cent wager. And he had it 26 times.
Could have been better for both Cruzan and Cal with a 20-1 horse bet down to 9-1. But that's
why we close the windows before the races start. Congrats on the win Cal and a super profit
of $919. Nicely played. Following are the unofficial results pending any objections. Once again
I'm thinking the pick 6 scratches revert to the post time favorite but if I'm wrong please let
me know. It's not officially official until it's official. See you all next week wherever we wind up.

It's great to see a card on which so many of our players were able to cash tickets. I hope that you all had some real $$ on your picks. Congrats especially to both Cal and Cruz for having the perspicacity to pounce on Pounce in the Herecomesthebride. While she didn't really look like a 20-1 shot, it was an incredibly astute play to single her on top of a tri or play a straight win. Well done to both of you.

RQ, that was a very generous exacta price you were able to get in the Honey Fox. Thank you also for scoring and for you usual enjoyable commentary.

Every week it seems like a daunting task to come up with a decent play, but I guess you just have to have faith and fire away and sometimes good things happen. If I had thought about it very much, I might have talked myself out of the play on Pounce and I imagine that some folks did because of the outside post and going up in class, but she looked like a standout to me. At least on paper and she proved that sometimes ability means more than class. It was a lucky play for sure and I probably won’t hit another like it for quite a while. Anyway, thanks for the kind words to everyone that made them.

Joly, your use of the word "perspicacity" made me laugh. It's not a word you see every day and probably one that I would avoid because I know I couldn't say it without tripping over my tongue. Seems like it belongs in the old tongue twister category along with "Peter picked a peck of pickled peppers."

Cal, I guess that I have a lot of similarly obscure words clunking around the back of my head. The product of years of reading and more than a little writing. Sometimes they just seep out. Glad to have provided amusement.

In a much earlier phase of my life, I was actively involved in sports car rallies, usually as a contestant but occasionally as the course organizer. I rallymastered one event for the New England Region of SCCA in 1974 or so that required the contestants to very carefully apply the instructions to properly follow the course, and created situations in which the failure to do so would lead to timing errors or off course excursions. The event was called "Perspicacity."
