![]() Just saw that the race with Cobalt Blue in it had the typical list of horses with Lasix which got me to thinking. Are any of the horses sniffing around the Derby trail running without it at this point? Seem like back in the day that the Derby was Smarty Jones' first start with the stuff but I could be wrong. They said they didn't wanna be the only one using it and then end up kicking themselves.
I've heard rumored pros and cons for it but what are reasonably assumed characteristics? As with many things it often isn't required but trainers don't want to be missing something that their competition has so they spread it around. I read a figure a year or two ago that 70% of horses running on Lasix don't need it. Anybody know if that's true? |

![]() wouldn't surprise me if that many used it. a lot of people think it improves a horse, which is why it was so controlled for years, but now i don't think there's a track that doesn't allow it. trainers will put a horse on it ahead of time, since some horses can be negatively affected when they are first put on the stuff.
funny tho that the euros always dis americans for all their med use, but as soon as they ship in, they're calling the vet to get their charges a dose of the stuff.
