Its easy to overlook his potential, but yeah, when he was good, he was good.

Candy Ride was awesome. Too bad he wasn't able to run more races.

The early 4yo Best Pal before suffering a major injury was a different horse than post injury, he 3 races or so in early 1992 were crushing, and if memory is correct he beat a few nice horses.

Major stakes winners Dinard and Olympio didn't make it beyond the Strub Series. Reign Road later took down the Del Mar BC and Goodwood before a fast closing 4th to AP Indy in the BC Classic. Another Review went on a mid season tear and took the San Bernadino, Mervyn LeRoy, Californian, and San Diego. Twilight Agenda won the Oak Tree Mile, Sea Cadet had just won the Donn and GP Handicaps and later won the Meadowlands Cup. Defensive Play later won the Excelsior. Argentine HOY Algenib later won the Golden Gate Handicap, fellow Argentinian Ibero won the NYRA Mile and the following year won the Met Mile. Past their prime In Excess and Fly So Free were also defeated.

So DRF has an article about the timing of this race...Trakus of course says there is nothing to see here, move along.

Reached on Tuesday, Michael Ciacciarelli, the chief operating officer of Trakus, said that the company had heard “chatter” about the timing of the Pegasus and had formed a team “that is kind of looking into it.” However, he also said that an initial review of the race had not turned up any errors in the timing system. Ciacciarelli did not immediately return a phone call on Wednesday morning seeking comment on any new developments in the review.

I was referring to the race itself. It wasn't exciting. there was no battle down the stretch, didn't have to be chrome, any other horse would have been fine.

Im not putting him with the "greats" yet. C.C raced 27 times and won 16 of them. Arrogate raced 7 times. Yes arrogate beat him but C.C. was like Ali at the end of his career. It's way too early and he will probably be retired next year.

I guess Secreteriat's Belmont must have been a real snoozer for you.

Really? Chrome was over the hill when he won HOY and won all but one of his starts?

Wow, even for you that is pretty dumb.

so it seems that upon arrival in Kentucky to breed , California Chrome was
x-rayed thoroughly, as most thoroughbreds are.

They found No issues, sound as a loud noise.

Could it be that the Horse in the #1 stall, Arrogate, got such a good start running into the first turn, striding wickedly fast, that the post position for Chrome was too much to overcome. I mean you really can't give Arrogate a head start by a few lengths with his speed, and expect to catch up to him.

I saw a 6 year old horse, who saw he couldn't catch up to the speed of Arrogate out of the gate, and he just gave up, like a horse who has grown tired of the game.

Nothing more than that..
he was behind from the post draw, and never caught up, and gave up at a mile after wicked fractions. He was seasoned enough to know, he couldn't catch Arrogate.

when you are in the 20th post at CD, you have a long stretch run to run the hypotenuse vector into the first turn, and loose little ground; at GP however, your hypotenuse vector is very short, and in most cases an insurmountable obstacle leaving you to run vertically instead of horizontally to approach the first turn. I wonder what the trackus distances would have been for the 2 ?

Uhhh...no. This is not what happened. Most likely he tweaked something in his knee that he couldn't run through. Ever go for a jog and have a kink in your leg that prevents you from running to your fullest? Bet your kneecap wasn't fractured. The X-rays coming back negative doesn't mean something wasn't wrong during the race.

This is not to say I think he would've beat Arrogate. I don't. I also don't think the trip or early fractions had anything to do with CC's performance. Something was physically amiss with him. That's all.

Horses can become old real quick, especially after 27 races and 5 years of racing.

I would say more are leaving than arriving. Especially at this level of racing. you also have to consider the late blooming 3 year olds coming up while you are declining.

Example - Look at Rachel Alexandra. Never the same after that hard campaign.

Ok some one call me stupid !!! QUICK!!!! tick tock...tick tock....
