Default Let's take a wee break

Next Saturday is just three days before Christmas and nothing exciting going on, racing-wise, anyway.

I think we should give ourselves the gift of a break and play again the following Saturday, Dec 29th. There are stakes galore on the 29th!

What do all of you think?

That's a great suggestion, Plen. I'm all for it.

A break works for me. I generally score on Monday and with it being Christmas Eve I don't know when I could do it.

Sounds good to me. I pulled up the Stakes Calendar, but didn't see anything, but a bunch of listed stakes at Fairgrounds that didn't seem to be too relevant to the KD or anything else. I think they were mostly Turf and dirt sprints.

It will be nice to have a Saturday off from handicapping with all of the other things that need to be done to get ready for Christmas. Hope that all of you have a very Merry Christmas and that no lumps of coal end up in your stockings.

I'll plan on posting the venue for December 29 on Boxing Day or very shortly thereafter. There are several good potential candidates, but if you need a hint, I'll probably follow the advice that has most likely been wrongly attributed to Horace Greeley to "go West, young man ..."

Happy Holidays to everyone and "be careful out there," (as they used to say on Hill Street Blues). Lots of good racing on the horizon.

Default Happy Solstice

HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE TO ALL
FOR THOSE CELEBRATING
{This Frisky Feline’s Holiday Of Choice}

The winter solstice will be today at 4:23 p.m. CST

A full moon will help kick off astronomical winter
and mark the so-called shortest day of the year.

The 2018 winter solstice is today, at 4:23 p.m. CST to be exact.

"Solstice" comes from the Latin words for "sun" and "to stand still."

The solstice occurs at the moment
the Earth's tilt away from the sun is at a maximum.

Because of this the sun will appear at its lowest elevation and its position
around noon will change very little for several days before and after the solstice, according to the National Weather Service.

This solstice will also be close to the time of December's full moon, which will
hit its fullest point on Saturday. However, it will appear full tonight as well.

Each month's full moon has a nickname, many of which were coined by
Native Americans. December's full moon is often called the "Cold Moon."
(It is also sometimes called the Long Nights Moon.)

And here I was thinking I knew one place where I could afford to drop a C-note this week!

Merry Christmas, everyone.

Definitely fine by me.
My kidney decided it was on the heavy side. I just got out of Tampa General Hospital... I'm blessed with kidney stones. I got to go home for Christmas. That's all right by me. The wackos are already out running around.
