Oaklawn has not been kind to us. The scores we'll see for the points contest will likely be pretty low. I did manage, I believe, a nice exacta in Race 4. My exacta plays are very basic so it's all about picking the right race or races to play, finding the right horse to put ontop and hope a mild long shot comes in to complete the place spot for a bigger return.

Yep, I think you are right about the points scores. I'm pretty sure my play was pretty stinky and I will likely be on the bottom of the pile in spite of the fact my play last time at Oaklawn won.

Congrats on finding your niche in the ROI. Your plan for world domination seems to be working to near perfection. Hard for the rest of us to keep up, but maybe that will inspire better play from all of us.

Thank you for this tip, DonGuido. I just started regularly betting late last year, have had good success especially show and place, and sometimes with win bets, but so far every time I've tried any kind of exotic I've lost, and I hate losing money, so I then go back to show, place and win to stay safe. Since I'm getting better at picking winners now, will try your system to try and hit an exacta.

And congratulations on another win!

Eclipse, I'm just hitting a lucky streak in picking the right races to bet my simple exacta. There are many players here that know much more about wagering on horses than I do. I could name them but the list would be way too long.

I am an advocate of the KISS principle for ure.

Maybe it's a lucky streak and maybe not. I think you are being too modest. I never did buy that you were a poor handicapper. You always did too well in the points contest.

Probably even us grizzled old timers could benefit from emulating you, but I doubt if we will. Most of us are a bit timid with respect to the going "all in" with a single bet in a single race, with the exception of Roamin and his all in win bets and Digger with his all in show bets.

Thank you all. Especially since I've learned so much about betting in my brief time here so far, thought I would share a betting strategy that has yielded me considerable success (keep in mind I'm a total novice!). Find a race with a good sized field you want to bet, handicap every horse without respect to odds, eliminate those you feel have no reasonable chance to hit the board, also of those remaining eliminate favorites/short prices. Then compare the remaining horses to TwinSpires "profit line" odds, and bet horses to place or show, depending on your confidence in the horse, if their live odds are above the profit line odds. Good luck!
