Default ROI Final Tally 2023

2023 gave us a first time ROI winner and his name was Indian Hemp. IH finished the year with an ROI of 13.19% and an overall profit of $625. It was a fairly comfortable win and after July 8th Indian Hemp was on cruise control. In July IH hit for $2783 which was the 4th highest return in the 14 years I have been scoring. It was a nice hit but bear in mind that IH added another $2500 in returns aided by 2 other wins and 2 super finishes. Congrats on your 2023 ROI win Bart. I'm sure it won't be the last. Real Quiet finished second this year with an ROI of 6.39%, Cal 3rd with a 2.05% and Digger was 4th with an ROI of .06%. 4 out of 10 players showing a profit over 47 weeks at various tracks is not too shabby. Real Quiet led the group with 9 wins, Cal added 8 with Zippy and Cruzan adding 5 each. Digger led the way by hitting the board 26 times in 47 weeks or 56% of the time. 4 players didn't miss a week, 2 missed one, one missed 2 and one missed 3. Our group remains small but still dedicated. I still like scoring and missed the ROI the past two weeks so I hope we keep on keeping on for another year. This year was a little out of the ordinary. During the course of the contest there were only 2 plus $1000 weeks so the scores weren't exceptionally high. IH had both those big weeks. There are plenty of ways to win by structuring your wagers and this year we had numerous ways that it happened. Hopefully we go again on Saturday. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Good stuff RQ. I always look forward to these recaps of the past year even though I haven't played well enough to get more than an honorable mention, if you will. Having finished plus a couple of grand down a few times, I'll take anything in positive territory. Hopefully, "one of these days" (which is a country song by Tim McGraw) I'll play the second half of the year as well as the first. I guess by the second half handicapping fatigue sets in.

Congrats to Indian Hemp the deserving winner. I particularly admire his tendency to go all-in which is something I rarely feel I can do with any success.

Congrats on a superb year of handicapping, IH. I have been very impressed in your aggressive style of play - clearly that's the way to achieve generous payoffs.

RQ, thank you for so consistently scoring the ROI contest and for making the weekly commentaries such enjoyable reading.

And to all of our small band of players, a very Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours.
