"As an aside, Thayer, had harsh words for a congressional hearing on medication that is scheduled in Washington, D.C. on June 20. Thayer said he believed regulation of drugs in horse racing is a state issue that should not involve the federal government and that the panel is “objectionable.” Thayer labeled the hearing a “dog-and-pony show” and questioned whether Congress would have the ability to regulate horse racing when it could not help resolve the nation’s economic problems. His statement led to a verbal clash with Whitfield, whose husband, Rep. Ed Whitfield, is one of the organizers of the congressional hearings. Both Thayer and Whitfield are Republicans." |

![]() I normally advocate state rights and control, in this case though with simulcasting racing clearly has crossed state lines and needs to be federally regulated....and that is a painful statement to make. With the internet there has to be some uniform rules rather then the weak interpretations some of these states have made.

There s no good reason there cannot be federal legislation addressing medication and slaughter issues with the states responsible for other regulation and administration of all regs. There are federal laws that apply to the insurance industry and yet states are responsible for regulation. And not loving a sport or business has nothing to do with whether you can regulate it. |

![]() I imagine that Whitfield, under goading from HSUS President Wayne Purcell, will indeed try to use amendments to the interstate gambling act to increase takeout nationally, in order to fund an ongoing federally-supervised permanent "control" of horse racing.

My next hope is that Thayer biotch-slaps Whitfield into submission, so I don't have to spend my time and money making sure Whitfield never gets re-elected in my state.

![]() Considering the many problems we had getting some states to stop treating Blacks like animals, I am not in favor of states rights. I am in favor of having 2 separate countries (America, and Nascartonia.)
