Default Steve Flipping Out on Dunkirk Caller

Today on ATRAB just before the 4:30 break, Steve- you acted like a complete baby when "Eric from NJ" shared his opinion about Dunkirk. It sounded like someone insulted a dead relative. You obviously have a bias against Dunkirk as minutes before his allowance win I believe you were quoted as saying you would "bet the mortgage against him". I tried to call in today but nobody picked up and Haskin came on. Glad to see he disagreed with you. Difference of opinion in racing is great but to hear the hissy-fit was bad radio- especially when the caller was just stating his opinion.
I've been a listener to the show for 3 years and I've disagreed with you and guests at times but that's fine and that's what it's all about. But I don't think that strong reaction to that caller was justified, especially when we had Smooth Air crammed down our throats last year and have to listen to John White rave about Pioneer of the Nile every single week. Here's an idea, why don't you show him the same defiance you showed the caller today since you've said you disagree with him in the past- or at least make him talk about something other than Pioneer of the Nile. John White is 100 times more annoying than any caller I've heard.

Points all valid and well taken. As I said, I was sorry I jumped on him. I don't do it too often. I didn't mind the difference of opinion at all... That's always great. What finally got to me was the insisting that a horse coming from out of it was preferable to a horse on/near the front.

As to not liking Dunkirk, he ran a nice race and I have no feeling pro or con with him. It isn't a Coolmore issue as Thunder Gulch is one of my favorites all time. I was irked by the way in which Saturday has been turned into "Dunkirk was cheated".

Appreciate you listening and the feedback.

I just about fell outta my chair laughing, when you told the guy to "find a new hobby"! It was very entertaining radio!

It was bad... I felt terrible the rest of the show and apologized a half dozen times. I've been edgy and anxious to get home for about 5 days. Have been here three weeks...

I thought it was the best ATR show he's done(it's the best I've ever heard.) If the three people he argued with had given in to him, then it wouldn't have worked as well. God Bless them(they were a part of the best ATR show ever.) All three told him he was wrong(actually all three disagreed with him about whether the track was biased.) Even when he told the caller to get a new hobby, the guy didn't exactly run off. He said.."Well, that's my opinion." I'll tell you what though...The first 10-15 minutes of the show(when Steve was talking alone about the Florida Derby) I thought the guy might have a medical episode. Right about when he said "He beat that horse on the square" I thought something might come loose. I didn't think it could get any better, and then (I still can't believe it) I hear him tell Lauren that so n' so cashes more tickets than she n' him do. I really don't know how they calmed down after he said that, but somehow they got back into a regular conversation. I'm telling you, this show was da bomb, folks. Was a laugh riot when Steve kept saying "Let me tell you something....This DUNKIRK!..."

It was one of the more intense shows, but that just shows Steve's passion for the game.

I agree with HHH...it's symptomatic of having passion for the game. Don't ever lose that Steve...we love you for it.

I'm so glad I don't have an open microphone on me on my bad days at work...what you guys would hear would not be suitable for broadcast. More like the polar opposite of what the "King's English" would be.

Ironically, looks like Hour 1 is not working on the archive. Just letting you guys know.

Could this become a Daily Double Drinking Game.... Mondays when Someone brings up Dunkirk.... and Tuesdays when Mr. White brings up P-o-t-n ?

Big fan of this horse (South Beach Luv) getting 2nd on Million Day, never in a million years would I think that she would have a internet moniker named after her.

Haha well I had to pick something, we were at Arlington in the paddock and my wife spotted her, she is an absolute dead ringer for her retired thoroughbred mare. She won that day and we've been following her since.
She hurt herself in that race on Million Day, but has since recovered, might be shipping to Delaware Park and fingers crossed coming back to Arlington this summer.

For me, it was about crushing that exacta with the Pletcher horse, paid about $90 if I recall, and getting to bust my friends balls becuase it was my choice for the show parlay, and I wanted to use her, but becuase she was 15/1, they were razzing me.
