Weren't all of Brother Derek's stakes wins around two turns?

Both the Sham and the Robert Lewis were glorified first condition allowance races. If the fairly consistent Riveting Reason is any sort of barometer, you can pretty much right off the horses out here. Jaycito is probably the last hope. I like the 7f comeback start (if Baffert holds to it). He may come up to the Derby slightly under-the-radar the way Real Quiet did in '98. |

I guess people are coming back to reality with Blind Luck, no?

She is pretty good. No? How much you want to knock her for yesterday? Her first off the bench, in a 4 horse boat raise devoid of pace. Three of the 4 were decent but Blind Luck should be better in her next. Dont you think?

Two losses in races over a track that's notoriously difficult on closers, the 2nd of which came in a race with no pace suddenly makes her accomplishments last year non-existent?

I think she is better going longer (not too many options I know), larger fields would certainly help too. The folks that bought her will likely never come back to reality, bargain of a lifetime.

I brought up Blind Luck because people were making her out to be among the better 3yo fillies of all time last year.
She is a really solid filly who was in a really awful crop of fillies. |

Probably had more to do with the similarities of the campaign (as compared to the avg modern horse) than her actual ability. Though I am a big supporter still.

The only thing I did was completely disagree with you when you said she was no better than Octave.

However, she does look to be a lot more like Octave now, right? |

However, when a pretty good filly is allowed to navigate an opening 1/4 in almost 25 seconds uncontested, and a half in almost 49 seconds, in a 4 horse field, on a track that has been producing fast times for weeks now, it's obvious a closer is going to be at a disadvantage. Any closer. |
