Default 1/9: Aqueduct ($24k C/O); Santa Anita ($87k C/O)

AQUEDUCT

POST-SCRATCHES

4th: CLM/N2L, 4+, 6f (P6, P3, DD)

$24,569 P6 C/O starts here..

Tricky Slam obviously horse to beat, but Jersey Jet (main track?), Chief Scout (more improvement to come?), Pepe (return to career best?) and Sonnyandpally (enough pace to close into?) all within striking distance if circumstances allow..

Most Likely: #5 Pepe 7-2 WON ($5.00)
Best Value: #1 Sonnyandpally 6-1 3rd
Next Best: #8 Chief Scout 4-1 2nd
Exotics Use: #7 Jersey Jet 15-1 DNF-Unseated rider

5th: CLM/N2L, F&M-4+, 6f (G/S, P3, DD)

Best Value: #4 Malibu Queen 6-1 4th
Next Best: #3 Morethanvictorious 4-1 WON ($6.60)
Exotics Use: #2 Julesco 5-2 3rd
Super Add: #6 Raven Rise 3-1 6th

6th: MCLM/$50k, 3yo, 1m (P4, P3, DD)

Hard to believe that John Morrison will run both #4 Brendan G and #9 Qui C'est Moi SCR'D given on lead and pressing style of pair. Either could be on loose lead here without presence of other. Meanwhile, 2nd timer Oltre' Oto and Pletcher/Repole dropper Village Warrior loom as obvious players. Zito Indiana-bred Percy's Ambition, exiting MSW that produced Coup de Grace and Unknown Road, has look of one that will take to added ground. Will be a big number..

Most Likely: #4 Brendan G 3-1 6th
Next Best: #7 Village Warrior 2-1 2nd
Best Value: #2 (POE) Percy's Ambition 12-1 5th
Exotics Use: #3 Oltre' Oro 9-2 WON ($9.10)

7th: CLM, 4+, 6f (P3, DD)

This race (and 8th) keys to sequence with break and early jock decisions central to whether pace is simply honest or heated. Jacobson continues to play claiming game aggressively with $20k last out buy Rift dipping to $12.5k tag here while seeking $15k winner's share of $25k pot. Exley, Money Only, Starship Captain, Alcomatch and Avenging Spirit are all jamming down in this set making your ticket exclusions very difficult..

Most Likely: #2 Exley 6-1 7th
Next Best: #9 Alcomatch 7-2 WON ($5.70)
Best Value: #4 Starship Captain 20-1 3rd
Exotics Use: #3 Say Mr. Sandman 12-1 2nd

8th: NY-OC/N2X, F&M-4+, 8.5f (DD)

Treacherous group confounds at each look as players like Downtown Hottie lure you despite a 14/0-4-2 inner track mark. Gloria Victoria may have put it all together and may just overwhelm this set..

Most Likely: #6 Gloria Victoria 5-2 2nd
Next Best: #3 Downtown Hottie 7-2 4th
Best Value: #5 City Gone Wild 5-1 6th
Exotics Use: #7 Hot Splash 6-1 WON ($17.40)

9th: MCLM/$16k, 3yo-F, 5.5f

Most Likely: #2 Birdsofafeather 4-5 2nd
Best Value: #5 Confederate Bay 30-1 6th
Next Best: #7 Zimbabwe Lady 4-1 WON ($11.20)
Exotics Use: #4 Livininthefastlane 6-1 4th
Super Add: #6 Pari Nath 20-1 5th

Watching today's seventh race, you could not help but be impressed by the ride from Taylor Rice for (her aunt) Linda Rice on Alcomatch. This was certainly one of the best apprentice rides that I have seen thus far on the inner track.

Just outside the 3/16ths, Taylor shifted towards the inside with four right hands (too much outside traffic to come wide), followed by three right hands at the 1/8th pole and two left handed taps just outside the 1/16th with a hand ride to an open lengths win.

The impressive part to me was having the courage to go inside - which might have been the result of circumstances after drifting back so far early and saving ground on the turn. Also, the judicious use of the whip, particularly when the race was put away based on Alcomatch's momentum, was impressive from the youngster.

Nice job by Linda using the apprentice on one of her own horses - smiles all around in the winner's circle.

(*) Disclosure : Did not have a play on this race.

You're right Scott. And definitely nice for Team Rice..

Montanez drove through inside earlier too in the 5th on Morethanvictorious.

He was the clear cut 9-5 fave Fred.. They did go fast enough, 1:09.4, same as the S/ALW group earlier.

Little bit of both. That opening 1/4 was VERY quick compared to some of the others there today.

P6 paid $13,367 and boy, it feels like you deserved a little more to get that group tied together... Might just be that I didn't rank the contenders well there today.

Steve, didn't you hit the Santa Anita Pick 6 conso 4 times (hitting it twice with bet # 8)? Just trying to give you credit where credit is due (and showing a slight profit on your Pick 6 bet).
