Less than 26 hours to go! Not that I'm counting, or anything...

Are you worried at all about the kinda crappy draw the girls all got?

Ed???

Ed???

You there or are you off watching a clock somewhere?

Honestly this day just sucks and it's making me even more excited for this...

Can't wait!

By the way the odds for Jungle Juice, MIlitary Move and Time Keeper are pretty insane, aren't they? I mean any of them can come in 2nd or 3rd I'd suppose....

Well maybe 3rd or 4th!

Crazy odds for those horses, and 100-1 for Volgus is insane too.

I'm a bit worried about the draws, but it's a long run before the first turn and they have good jockeys on their backs. I think they'll be ok.

It's Derby day. Less than 3 hours until the first race, 7 hours to go until the Derby. I'll be leaving in an hour.

Noooo wait i forgot to ask something!

The jockey for Zarzeula? Is he the one who looks about 12?

Seriously I don't know the name but if he's the one I'm thinking of has he always been her jockey? Is he like a young sensation or right place at the right time or what?

Okay I'm out of here but hope you can answer.

Have a fantastic time!

Blow a kiss (well you know what I mean) to my Bayboy and tell him it's okay not to win here cause he's up against some really great girls and just look at Katie when she wins for me! You don't have to jump up and down or scream or swoon or any of it but take one of those pictures with your mind that you'll remember when you're an old man and do it for mne too since I can't be there (damnit!).

Have fun ed!!!!!

Good luck.

Be safe everyone!

You're right, that's James McDonald. He's 18 years old...

He's only in his third season of riding and is still an apprentice. He was champion jockey last season, and will probably do it again this season. He's got 113 wins so far, 15 more than Mark Du Plessis.

He's the number one rider for Mark Walker, so he also rides Tell A Tale and lots of other nice stakes horses.

Wow impressive (and duh Tell a Tale... it's like I'm braindead for thinking well that name is vaguely familiar!).

Thank you ed!

Have a great time!!!

I just woke up.

Ummm.... huh?

I mean yea, nice for Military Move but huh?

Where was she ed?

I read one little piece and she wasn't even mentioned (neither was Bayboy, Monaco Consul...)

Just very, very surprised.

I'll watch the replay later.

You okay?

Yeah, it just wasn't her day. Usually in the parade she's on her toes and kicking a bit, and yesterday she looked bored. She's had 10 races this season, all stakes, and maybe she's had enough for now. Opie said she was never interested in trying.

Bayboy ran a nice race but got a bit tired at the end. Monaco went a bit crazy at the last turn! Zarzuela didn't have the same zip as she showed in her last two races.

Military Move deserved it. He opened up the same big break as he did in the 2000 Guineas, and this time there was no Katie Lee to run him down. It was great to see Michael Walker's celebration - I think it was his first G1 since his major head injury 18 months ago, and he said he had always dreamed of winning the Derby.

Great picture - http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/97...y-Images-Sport

That picture is just lovely and made it all better somehow.

Good for him... I'm happy for him and yeah I'm sure you're right... it's been a long season for her and good for MM too although I was surprised by who was and wasn't there at the end.

Nice nice horses this time around. Shall we expect the same in 2012?

It's a shame Passchendaele is scratched with an injury. She was at even money and would have been so hard to beat.

Who is the favorite now and why do I only know 6 of these names?

Zavite was the favourite. The field was filled more with up-and-comers than horses who had proven themselves at the top level, and I guess that experience was a big thing in Zavite's favour.

Replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gptgegPPUM

But I LOVED this performance on the undercard, in the Sunline Vase, by a filly called A Chance To Dream. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l811pCnpmpg

She's second favourite for the Oaks now (behind Keep The Peace) now after that amazing win. I think that's the best Oaks prep I've seen this season.

If you're worried about the horse that gets eased up near the end of that race, she's ok. Probably won't race again, which is a shame, but I'm sure her owners will look after her at their huge stud.

Can you tell me something about Grey Way?

I was looking at the Hall of Fame inductees...

51 wins of 164 starts?

I've never heard this name before and was wondering if he's like a national treasure, what time period this was, etc.

(Oh yeah and how is our good Sir, ed? Any news?)

Thanks!

Sir Slick is running in another G1 on Saturday. He's at 30-1 against this tough field...

1 52111 Red Ruler 5 110 59.0 Mark Du Plessis John Sargent, Matamata
2 00424 MacO'Reilly 7 109 59.0 Hayden Tinsley David Haworth & Matt Dixon, Foxton
3 01014 Vosne Romanee 8 108 59.0 Opie Bosson Jeff Lynds, Awapuni
4 37112 Hold It Harvey (AUS) 4 106 59.0 Jamie Bullard Terri Rae, Riccarton Park
5 07048 Sir Slick 2 105 59.0 Michael Walker Graeme Nicholson & Paul Allbon, Te Aroha
6 83424 Tell A Tale (AUS) 3 102 59.0 James McDonald (a) Mark Walker, Matamata
7 005X2 Harris Tweed 9 101 59.0 Troy Harris Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge
8 61121 Boundless 1 106 57.0 Leith Innes Stephen McKee, Ardmore
9 61119 Veloce Bella 10 103 57.0 Michael Coleman Mark Brosnan, Matamata
10 4X541 Prix Du Sang (AUS) 6 80 57.0 Craig Grylls Mike & Paul Moroney, Matamata
11 21102 No Fear 11 75 54.5 Gavin McKeon Bruce Wallace, Takanini

Grey Way was an amazing horse. He raced from 1972 to 1980, so a little bit before my time! I don't know that much about him, except that the Easter Handicap field he beat in 1977 (carrying a record weight, I think) is considered one of the best mile fields ever in NZ.

This might tell you a bit more about him - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grey_Way

Thanks ed.

The only name I knew when I was looking around (Hall of Fame) was Bonecrusher and, being an idiot, hadn't heard of him till I mentioned the other, (slower ) Bonecrusher who was racing in Dubai a couple of years ago.

Ummmm okay that field is completely and insanely good!

Good luck to Sir Slick , Esquire.

Hope he wins but will be very happy of Tell a Tale or Red Ruler win (or Bounldless, or...)

The old boy went another mighty race - 5th.

Tell A Tale went even better, and Mark Walker says his best year might be next year.

But the winner, and probable Horse of the Year...

Vosne Romanee!

It's an amazing story - the owners had never won a single race before they got VR, and they were pretty happy with his 6 wins in lower class races until this season. Now he's won three G1s and $1.2 million! Must be like a dream for them.

And he's hard not to like...

Replays...

G1 NZ Stakes (VR and great performance by Sir and TAT) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjJJEbHdWpw

G1 Diamond Stakes (Banchee is stepping out of her champion big sister's shadow!) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4xtuWpco_o

And that's the end of a great Derby week.

Anyway lovely for him and for his connections and oh Sir and Banchee!
