He was in a spill yesterday. It sounds like it's just bad bruising, but I think the doctors have said he shouldn't ride for a week or so. Unlucky for him.

I went down to Te Rapa. It was a great day, with exciting races and a massive crowd.

Too bad for him.

Ooh! Excellent. Good luck to both of them, but especially MM.

By the way, Red Ruler is running at Te Rapa this Saturday in his last race before the G1 Zabeel Classic here in Auckland on Boxing Day.

The great races are so close now. 11 stakes races over the two days at Ellerslie on December 26 and January 1.

Here's Fritzy's win: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdl_6pq6ovc
What a brave performance. Great race by Cellarmaster as well.

Red Ruler was 4th in his race. He had a huge weight and it was a distance way short of what he likes best, so he had excuses. And he finished the race really strongly.

THAT WAS FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

God I am just thrilled that he won.

Where to next? Isn't the Telegraph at the beginning of the year?

Thank you for posting that ed. Brave indeed and yeah Cellarmaster was as well.

Thanks for the RR update too.

The Telegraph is on January 22. That'll be his next start. And I'll be flying down to see that race. I've never been to Trentham before, so that's exciting.

Confirmed!

They said at first that he would be away from racing for months - it ended up being exactly one month. He's surprised everyone with how quickly he's recovered. And he must not be a fan of standing around and doing not much.

Another comeback on Boxing Day - Mark Du Plessis.

Fields for Sunday, the first day of the Christmas-NY carnival at Ellerslie:

NEWMARKET HANDICAP

Last year's winner: WEALTH PRINCESS

1 3X487 Richard Beymer 14 104 58.0 Reese Jones Jakki Good, Waiuku

11 344 Western Star 3 56 54.5 Samantha Collett Tony Cole, Te Kauwhata

Jimmy! He must have only just returned to full training, so he might not be at peak fitness. But I really hope he goes a good race. Raffles Knight looks like a good horse, so Jimmy will have to watch out for him.

ZABEEL CLASSIC (G1)

Last year's winner: VOSNE ROMANEE

1 52134 Ginga Dude 10 109 59.0 Michael Walker Graeme Boyd, Kaipaki

6 X5444 Spectacular Icon 12 102 59.0 Chris Wood, Cambridge
7 23X10 Booming 8 100 59.0 Jeff Lynds, Awapuni
8 11456 Spare A Fortune 7 100 59.0 Samantha Collett Gary Hennessy, Matamata
9 701X0 Mr Tipsy 3 99 59.0 Michael Coleman Murray & Bjorn Baker, Cambridge
10 69721 Veloce Bella 4 103 57.0 James McDonald (a) Mark Brosnan, Matamata
11 5X140 Dancing Jess 15 99 57.0 Noel Harris Dick & Chris Bothwell, Stratford
12 42683 Sharp Princess 1 97 57.0 Tasha Collett Fraser Auret, Marton
13 51291 November Rain 9 99 56.5 Jason Collett (a) Richard Collett, Pukekohe Park
14 78134 Obsession 14 98 56.5 Frank Ritchie, Cambridge
15 X4353 A Chance To Dream (AUS) 11 87 56.5 Leith Innes John Sargent, Matamata

Red Ruler is the favourite here for what would be his first G1 win. Mark Du Plessis says "he feels like a completely different horse" when he's at home in NZ, compared to when he's in Australia. He's so good here in NZ. Vosne Romanee and November Rain are probably the next best chances.

Fantastic!

Good luck Jimmy and come home safe.

If he doesn't win it's fine... I'm so happy he's alright.

I always root for Banchee but really do like Rememba Howe as well and she's my pick.

I have no idea about anyone in the Newmarket but am hoping to see the next Wealth Princess.

Red Ruler... love him to death. He never seems to win when I think he will so why don't I keep my mouth shut and cross my fingers?

I do of course like the two you mentioned as well as Veloce Bella who I know just won one cause I saw the name and then forgot to ask you about the field as I'd never heard of the rest!

(... and Ginga Dude!).

Thrilled about Jimmy. Best news in a while.

I thought we wouldn't be seeing him again. SOOOO good to be wrong.

He's had a bit of a break after a disappointing spring. But he's resuming in the G1 Railway at Ellerslie on January 1.

In that race he's likely to be up against Katie Lee and Vonusti, plus quite a few other improving horses.

Nice story in the newspaper today, headlined "Jimmy Choux makes full recovery."

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/racing/new...ectid=10696277

Best bits:

"I think one of the great things is that Jonathan (Riddell) knows this horse so well he pulled him straight out of the Otaki race the minute he felt the horse wasn't himself," said Bary yesterday.

"That meant there was no prolonged stress on the horse."

"He's had a couple of very good gallops lately because we've had to know [whether to race at Ellerslie] and he's come through them terrific.

"Jonathan is the best judge because he knows the horse so well and he's entirely happy with him."

YES!

Some timed gallops from him are starting to appear, so a return to the track can't be far away for him. He's the Derby favourite at the moment at 4-1, just ahead of Lion Tamer at 6-1.
