It was a good run but Kobe is done as a top player.

agreed. which is why i was stunned by how much money the lakers offered him. and now, another injury. the lakers need to face facts and start fresh.

The Lakers gave him a golden parachute. IMO they wanted to tie up money so that they couldnt bring in mid-level, competent players and get an 8 seed and 1st rd exit the next few years. In essence Kobe's deal (and Nash's who doesnt play because he is broke down and Gasol's who looks like toast) keeps them from getting to be a little too good. After this deal is over they will have virtually no long term, high dollar deals and most likely a few decent young players that they drafted to build around whatever big name FA they can pry away from a smaller market team

i guess that's as good a theory as any other, as to why they spent so much. with him out at least 6 weeks, does that have any affect on their cap? or would they have to move him to ir?
an achilles can never be as good as new, my sister had hers cut years and years ago. even with modern medicine, repairing a tendon is touchy-it's shorter than before, and will remain so. |

The Lakers basically sacrificed three years, this one and the next two. They are awful. And, this isn't 1988. Players aren't flocking to the Lakers (or Knicks or Celtics or Nets) because they are big market. Durant has shown you can be a mega-star pretty much anywhere if you are good enough. The new Buss has his work cut out, and will most likely be found lacking. He has already bungled every decision he has made.

It's not the Knicks, it's Carmelo. He destroys franchises.

The Nets can't catch a break. Brook Lopez lost for the season with a broken foot.

They still should have enough talent to win that train wreck of a division, but this is a long-term worry for their only young asset. Shades of Yao. |

Bledsoe better watch out for a major injury. Any minute now.
