DrugS' Sun King fan smear directed at just 1 Sun King fan specifically... All other Sun King fans get reprieve...

But I do enjoy these trip threads you have started. They are very informative.
I'll drink a cold one to Sun King. I liked him. If he was a bum he was one of the richest bums I ever saw -- $2,097,018 career earnings.

And thanks for the interesting thread.

Linny is a "she" and we were not in a box, but standing by the rail near the "upstairs" winners circle on Saturday. Nick was disappointed but after he saw the 1/4 time go up, he knew he was in trouble. (Nick and I were not talking during the race, but I was listening to him as I was standing shoulder to shoulder with him.) Mr. LaPenta was encouraged and he was trying to cheer Nick up as they walked onto the track to get the colt when he came back. Nick just kept shaking his head, saying "oh man, oh man..." but I honestly thought that he felt he was hurt by the early face, which IMO he was. All throught the lane, Nick thought he could or would win. In that sense he wasn't "deflated." He was only upset when he was passed.
Nick takes his horses very personally. He puts alot into his operation and when things don't work his way it bothers him. Some trainers kick trash cans, some pound the seat in front of them with a rolled of DRF. Nick wears his emotions on his sleeve. I felt bad for him. He almost won a $750k G1. He was pleased however that the horse "ran his race."

They were running into the wind coming home on Sat so part of that early pace was also against the wind. That means WP worked even harder to put away Inner Light. He won the battle and lost the war.

Drugs,

Very nice job once again. You must live in a blimp.

Based on everything you've seen, give me your top two Derby candidates...and why.

Thanks,

Spyder from SC

I agree. I am reading, watching, and learning, and don't claim any expertise. But these photo posts are fascinating and educational. Helps me to better appreciate some of the strategy decisions that trainers and jocks have to make.

Thanks for putting in the effort, and please keep it up.

If you think WP is the same horse he was last year then you are more clueless then I orginally thought. Face it, he is half the horse he was last year distance has nothing to do with it. If he would have come back right the distance would not be an issue. WP is just one of many that are better 2 year olds then 3 year olds.
Freddy,

Just when I thought you were learning something you go and ruin it. The effort by War pass on Saturday was exactly what he did last year. The difference is he had to go a little farther, and at least one of the horses was better and more mature than at 2.

He was third or fourth best in his crop, so I'd have a hard time with that label.

Good question. Didn't he piss off the Sheikhs or something, and as a result, have a falling out with McLaughlin?
