1) Gotta pay him back for the 2k hit that day
2) He really didn't use him until the last 1 furlong IMO, he just looped them and then let him go

My uncle always said that. Well his quote was "Time only matters when you're doing it"

Do you think that since Any Given Saturday came back from the Tampa Derby to run bad that Street Sense could throw in a clunker? I don't mean run 2nd. I mean run out of the Tri.

I have to say that Street Sense has always been my horse. He will be running on the turn and by the time the camera switches angles for the home stretch, he's jumped to the lead.

Does anyone have his works since the Tampa Bay Derby?

Really? On the very same day as Timed Squareds race, later in the card was an allowance race for older horses that was run at the same 1 1/16 distance.
Here are the fractions for both races.

Current track record at the distance 1:41.6

25.53 50.35 1:15 1:39.69 1:45.68 Time Squared
24.66 47.88 1:11.8 1:35.91 1:41.94 Rathor

The allowance horses were almost four seconds faster.

I think Street Sense is far less likely to "throw in a clunker" here than AGS last week.
AGS was originally pointed to this race (which was 4 weeks after his last) and then switched to a race 3 weeks out at the last minute.
Street Sense will have another week off and presumably will have had a more appropriate training schedule because he has been pointing to this race all along. There is also the small fact that I think SS is simply a better horse than AGS.
That being said....I still like Great Hunter.

Oh Jim, you and your facts. Can't a guy just believe that Time Squared will probably destroy Great Hunter and Street Sense without getting distracted by the fact that he is a slow animal and they are not?

I thought Teuflesberg looked the best in his work, but I think he might be in over his head at this distance. I can see him being a serious sprinter.

he does have a beautiful reach to his stride when asked. Deadly Dealer looked like he was going to explode if they didn't allow him to run.

Agree, I think he will a great a 6f to 7f horse and possibly
a one turn mile horse.

Pace makes the race. Time Squared closed into a glacial pace, which is pretty hard to do most of the time. He was dead last at the quarter while they were poking along ahead of him, still 9th at the 3/4 mark. Closed with a rush to just get up in the last couple of strides. The comments, by the way, say "hopped start, 8 wide lane, driving."

Notice that the time from the 3/4 mark to the finish in each race is comparable - 30.68 sec vs. 30.14 sec. And Time Squared was still a long way back at the 3/4, while Rathor was right up near the lead.

All that said, I still like Great Hunter best.
