He had a soft trip that day---and beat a horse making his return off a layoff who's since been injured.

I'm not sold on Kip Deville....I realize he got a very moderate ride on Memorial day---but he probably figured to get that kind of ride going in---he's pretty overrated IMO.

That horse is a good horse and has a shot to hit the board, just off memory. I hit that horse a couple times recently at the SA meet

Good to know.
I have never heard of him before, but all of the horses that I HAVE heard of in this race are certainly vulnerable.

Kip was boxed in with no place to run until the stretch......but then he was turned loose and he ran hard but was unable to keep up with Becrux and was being passed up by Right Special. With a clear trip, he would have been closer to the winner but doubtful he would have won.

On paper this is a great race. 5 Grade 1 winners in this race and a field of 12 (right now). Better than most of the crappy 4-horse fields we get so often...

From a betting perspective, you are absolutely correct. This is a good race.
From a field-quality perspective, I would say it is just okay. That "five G1 winners" stat you mentioned is a bit misleading since Buzzard's Bay's G1 win came in '05, Wilko's in '04, and Perfect Drift's in '03. None of them have been G1 winners either this year or last year.
It is still a very nice field for a G2, but it isn't exactly the quality you might expect when you have five G1 winners in one race.
Also, who is the fifth (other than the three I mentioned and Kip Deville) G1 winner in this field? I can't think of it.

Boboman won the G1 Hollywood Turf Cup in '06.
