Don't they share equipment? Are they going to ship everything back and forth every week?

Share equipment? like what? I doubt they share equipment, highly. They have as many horses stabled at Hollywood as at Santa Anita, it is only like 20 miles away I think

I am pretty sure there is only one tote board for the southern California tracks. Not sure what else may be shared.

I don't think so, all three are completely different, as far as I can remember.

Santa Anita has the numbers left to right
Hollywood has the numbers North to South
Del Mar is keeneland-esqe i think

Not sure on that. They are sharing some equipment at least:

Hollywood Park President Rick Baedeker said an LED display board has been purchased that will move from meet to meet.

Edit - Just found this but it is blocked at work so I can't get to it. Looks like the LED display board is the tote board.

Interesting, maybe it is the big screen or something, I don't know. It is a joke out there. You have tracks like Tampa Bay that continue their success but tracks like Gulfstream and Santa Anita that have no idea what is going on.

In No. Cal - There's been a reported 17 horses who either "broke down" were "vanned off" or "walked off" over a span of 13 days - In So. Cal, an entire weekend of racing at the great Santa Anita winter meet has been lossed.

It's just a shame Fairplex doesn't have a turf course I guess.

Now that would be tight turns.

It will be interesting to see how this thing shakes out. In a month the people in SoCal could be complaining about a drought again. So we never know...

But!

Just say they get one of these storms... say... I don't know... around the last weekend in October next year. They better get the sh*t figured out quick, because the Breeders Cup is less than a year away. I wonder if the Breeeders Cup people are watching closely, and thinking of contingencies...

I live in Southern CA and it rarely rains in October. Even if it does rain, it won't be much. It will be a negligible amount. I predict whatever track they have installed will be fine during that time period.

Assuming the track is in good enough shape to run this Thursday, does anyone know if/how they'll reschedule the stakes races they lost last weekend?
I don't know how that's usually handled, or how it affects the condition book of the weeks ahead.

Default CHRB clears path for Hollywood to take on Santa Anita dates

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/nat...ita-dates.aspx

Excerpt:
by Jeff Lowe

Following three days of cancellations because of drainage problems with the Cushion Track surface at Santa Anita Park, the California Horse Racing Board on Tuesday cleared a regulatory path that would allow live dates at the current winter/spring meet to move to Hollywood Park.

Meeting in a special session via teleconference, the board voted unanimously to amend Santa Anita's license to allow some or all of its dates to be conducted at Hollywood.

“What we are trying to do here today is simply to remove a regulatory impediment,” CHRB Chairman Richard Shapiro said. “It is not designed to dictate that racing should go to Hollywood Park—that is for the stakeholders to decide.”

Shapiro and Santa Anita President Ron Charles both indicated that Hollywood officials are willing to make the facility available for Santa Anita dates.

Also, the CHRB left the door open for possible waiver of requirement for a synthetic surface at SA -- i.e. allowing them to return to dirt. SA will be meeting with trainers and owners, and said they will make a decision in the next 48 hours. SA also has talked to DMR about stabling horses there for training only.

i just read an article (link at equidaily) that SA might rip up the cushion and reinstall dirt.
so, a temporary move to hollywood? exactly how long would it take to rip up cushion, and install dirt?

crazy, absolutely crazy situation....

They have no idea what they are doing. From what I heard the Santa Anita surface before cushion was absolutely horrible so I guess anything was better.

They might as well just cancel racing in California and start again next year
