Of course, like you said, it is a limited sample of the horses so far.
Horses by PP and Mineshaft on average look entirely different. The only thing they have in common except for home is neither figures to have much early success

Obviously the Mineshafts don't move well and are possibly sore.
Also, actually, a lot of horses at the sales are sore. You can see how sore some are plain as day in their previews by the way they are moving or the way they act during their previews. Or you can go look at them the day after their previews to see which ones are lame or swollen.

It doesn't mean that I don't think that Mineshaft won't have outstanding individuals. I already said that one of his fillies from a Keeneland sale was awesome. It just means that his babies overall did not deserve all the hype they were getting from based on most of the individuals that were entered in the two year olds in training sales last year.

Vindications in the two year old sales were also overhyped.
What is this hype you speak of? You mean to tell me people who aren't trainers and owners get excited about yearlings?

That's just baffling to me. I equate it to a guy going to a pop warner football game his client's nephew is playing in because the kid could end up being in the nfl.

I know, I know. You plan on being an owner one day. Oh to be young again! To have dreams and aspirations!! Delusions of grandeur!! Vanity!! Oh how I miss those days.

But really that's like the guy at the pop warner game justifying his decision to attend because he might be his financial planner in the future when he's in the NFL.

See? I can be creative and dramatic too. Doesn't make it sane, however.

When did the conversation ever involve yearlings? I get excited about the two year olds for certain reasons...well, I can't say.

Well, I reckon if you are successful in life, and make enough money that you can be a race horse owner. I already own a horse (could sell him buy a racehorse, but I love him too much), and need to have a solid career before I invest in the racehorses. I could easily go into racing partnerships right now, but don't want to because I want to be able to make decisions over my investments.

Yearlings, two year olds, semantics. The point is that most of these horses are too rich for even a successful person to purchase. Do you plan on being so successful that you would have $200,000 to spend on one horse? Can you answer that with a yes and actually believe it?

And furthermore a high number of them don't even make it to the races, much less break their maidens. It's a horrible investment if you don't have at least eight figures in the bank.

They remind me of each other because they were both route sires who produce a lot of just ok or bad-moving horses (jury still out on PP). I don't care how physically immature they are or how differently they are built. It still doesn't mean that they are going to move any better as they mature. I would actually like to see a horse that moves differently from their two year old year to their three year old year unless they are lame. Once a bad mover, always a bad mover. I will believe it from working with so many young horses over the years, and from watching so many horses grow and develop.

Showing Up moved the exact same way throughout his entire career that he did in his two year old in training sale video. Past the Point moves the exact same way that he did in his two year old in training sale video. Ron Bob and Dave moves the exact same way that he did in his two year old in training sale video. Rasierra moves the exact same way she did in her two year old in training sale video. Should I keep going because there are hundreds more....

(I stated this earlier) I will say that I have seen a really good Mineshaft, and possibly another one or two that I may have forgotten about from last year. I haven't been through all of the Mineshafts at Fasig Tipton Calder this year, but one of them is fairly nice of the ones that I have been through. The few Mineshafts at Fasig Tipton Calder this year are better than the Pleasantly Perfects that I have seen so far because the PPs are pretty bad. I was too quick to make the comparison, and went through a few more of the Pleasantly Perfects.

No one really talked about Empire Maker, and his babies at the sales were much better overall IMO than the Mineshafts last year. Will have to go through the sales this year to see if my opinion is still the same and if the sires are still producing the same quality horses.

I sure do. I always go to the yearling sales here and just sit there and watch it for a few hours, find it really fascinating.

Especially if I later see some of the horses I saw go through the ring on the racetrack.

And you do get to see a lot of them later on, which is a good thing. I like to follow them too. You learn a lot that way. I don't get to go to the yearling sales though, and often don't have time to watch them over the internet. One day I will though...

I got to see about 2/3rds of last week's breezes, and one that looked nice to me was Hip 138, a Proud Citizen filly out of an American Chance mare. Richie mentioned Lion Heart and Speightstown, and there were colts by both that prospective buyers were talking about.. Hip 114 is Lion Heart via Deputy Minister mare VVS Flawless, and Hip 228 is the Speightstown from a Meadowlake mare.

And good luck today to Kenny Lejeune, who is training Aldebutante at Ocala. He has Hip 12, a Macho Uno filly named In the Evening, and Hip 95, an Officer filly, in the sale.

I hope you got an expert opinion before posting this info.

Saw a lot of the Speightstown yearlings last year and too my non-expert eye they looked FAST FAST FAST...
