Doesn't that suggest that he has physical issues? If he's in form at the present, don't they have to take their shot now as opposed to a meticulously progressive campaign of turf races that culminates in a facile win in the Secretariat in August? Maybe we can get Ron Burgundy to investigate and shed some light on this. |

It would be silly to pass up the Santa Anita Fake Dirt Derby with a good turf horse. This one set a relaxed pace last out and finished strong, so he doesn't appear to be the tough to rate type that falter on synthetics.

He got a 94 in his final start at age 2, a 98 in the Sham when he was caught 4 wide on both turns on a track where Going Wild rode the live rail the whole way, than he got a 93 in by far the fastest San Felipe stakes ever run, over a super fast track that was carrying speed. |

This seaon Giocomo would be a standout! (Scary stuff!)
The point is that in a chaotic season, made more so by the "synthetic factor" it may be worth it to take a shot. The top 3 from the San Felipe were all stretchout sprinters. Col. John is bred to route but has not exactly been a monster. It may not be about making Polonius a KY Derby winner but getting G1 3yo credentials into him. No matter what, the "turf 3yo divisions" may be nice for making money (Va Derby etc) but it's not where you make "credentials" for your 3yo.
