I don't really see a joke, just calling Larry a bad announcer while cyber blowing Vic.

It was in jest towards the other thread.

And if we are airing personal opinions, Collmus is garbage anyways, if I want someone to stay the same tone, I'll go to the library

I don't understand why we needed two threads about something nobody seems to care about anyway.

That was the point of my post. You already aired your opinion. Now he is garbage? Nice, you are a class act.

Give Chris Kotulak another chance......he can get it right; I know he can. I've heard him call the races at Fonner Park.

If I recall, Vic was given the pink slip through e-mail. Seems like this thread is a waste of time.

The most important question to be asked here is who cares? Why now on a question that has obviously been answered by the people who have the final opinion- the ones who do the hiring and firing?

Obviously the management at Gulfstream saw a reason to make a change, they dismissed an announcer who is colorful yet is quite prone to error, often lets his emotions get the best of him, and has more gaps in his calls than Michael Strahan does in his teeth. They hired an announcer who rarely, if ever, makes a mistake, has more experience than his predecessor and gives you as factual a race call as you'll find anywhere. There's also something to be said for maintaining an even keel during a race call and keeping it simple.

Vic seems like a nice guy and I'm glad he participates in the board.

However, lines like "cowabunga dude" and "Showing the Speed of Ruffian, the class of Lady's Secret and the Heart of Personal Ensign" along with "that's the original rags to riches" is just a little over the top in my opinion.

Way off base there Scavs. He is solid and accurate and does a great job. And as far as the same tone goes, it's tough to get excited for those 5-10k claimers that they are running there most of the week. But he definately steps it up a notch for the better races.

it is all preference, I would much rather have those lines, then the same call all the time, which is what Collmus gives ya. He has about 3 different calls, thats it

Is Omar Minaya in charge of Gulfstream too?

just try to imagine all of the memorable big race calls Collmus has made.
there aren't any because when he calls a race it sounds unimportant, bland. 10K claimers or gr1's, no difference.
no doubt in my mind that they took a step backwards when they made the change.

Clearly Vic is the better of the two, and he vehemently defended Gulfstream during the abortion that it has become and got fired nonetheless.

He doesn't have memorable calls because:

1.) He hardly ever gets to announce memorable races.
2.) He doesn't throw in the gimmicky lines that Vic does (I'm not trying to bash Vic, he's obviously one of the best, just saying).

How many memorable calls does Kurt Becker have? Does that make him a worse announcer than Stauffer or Durkin or Denman? IMO, no.
