The chemistry is not there between them. The trainer has known this for a long time, Ivarone needs to listen to him about this.
big brown broke very well. shot out of the gate..but then as soon as coal play ranged up, kent didn't ease the horse back. he put the brakes on. not a smooth ride early on at all.
it's a shame that edgar was injured when this horse ran his first race. prado was supposed to have the mount, but kent got the call since edgar couldn't ride. the rest is history.

Actually, Jeremy Rose got the call when Edgar couldn't ride.

Travers? retirement?
Im glad everyone here makes the decisions for BB. Did anybody see the post race interview and then see it again another 100 times on sports center??? They said one more race before the BBC and it most likely wouldn't be Travers. Wow.

On ESPN it looked to me like KD was having some trouble getting BB to slow down and stop after the wire. Did anyone else notice this? I wondered if BB just didn't get into the race until late and then wasn't ready for it to be over when it was.

I'm not a particular BB fan (I'd say because of the connections, but as FGFan can testify, I'm a huge fan of Benny the Bull, so consistent I am not. ), but I thought it was a fun race to watch and it was neat to see BB show a little bit of grit, since we haven't seen that from him before.

Think I saw a 106 Beyer for Big Brown for the Haskell, for what it is worth.

Dutrow on BB vs. Curlin - has the guantlet been thrown down?

"Curlin couldn't win the Derby, we could," Dutrow said. "Curlin couldn't win this race, we could. Curlin got beat [by] a filly. We haven't. Our horse is undefeated on the grass. Curlin isn't. I don't know why people think Curlin is such a good horse. We're way better than Curlin."

No way did he spew that nonsense. No way. This takes the cake for ridiculous Dutrow comments. What a toolbox.

Curlin would squash Big Brown without breaking a sweat.

Maybe IEAH should insist that their trainers are drug free too. It's probably easy to talk about Curlin since BB will probably be retired and not have to face him.

hmm i read the article about prado making the HOF, and it made it seem he lost out due to injury, and desormeaux got the call.
oh well, not the first time i've seen a mistake in an article.

omg, you gotta be kidding me. big brown was all out to beat a horse who couldn't even win an opt claimer last time out...the whole field he beat had two, TWO graded wins between the lot of them. undefeated on grass?! lol big freaking deal, judging by the grass win he got. you can't judge his grass win vs curlins second.
this guy is delirious. or burnt. maybe both.

we're way better than curlin?? someone get this guy some help.

Default Dutrow and his big mouth are back....

Cant keep this guy down for long. Would love to see these two horses meet. Curlin would toy with him. Dutrow forgot "BB was all out to beat an average horse like coal play.....Curlin wasn't"....or "we are beating the worst 3 yr crop possibly ever....Curlin's crop wasnt".

Following the Haskell press conference, the topic of Curlin, the defending Horse of the Year, and the Breeders' Cup Classic came up. Dutrow, known for his candidness and cockiness during the Triple Crown run, gave his assessment of Curlin.

"Curlin couldn't win the Derby, we could," Dutrow said. "Curlin couldn't win [the Haskell], we could. Curlin got beat [by] a filly. We haven't. Our horse is undefeated on the grass. Curlin isn't. I don't know why people think Curlin is such a good horse. We're way better than Curlin."

i've never been that high on curlin. i think, like big brown, he's benefitting from a total lack of competition. but he'd still eat a big brown-ie for lunch.

i remember when bud delp used to ruffle feathers when he spoke of spectacular bid. 'best horse to look through a bridle'. a lot of people took umbrage at him being so brazen. but who could argue with bud delp now? (Ok, nobody since he's now resting in peace, but you get my point).

easy to say tho for dutrow, that he could beat curlin. as long as he stays in the 3 yo R ranks, he won't have to worry about proving it, will he??

i will laugh, maniacally, if somehow, some way, zenyatta goes in the classic and big brown manages to be there-and zenyatta wins. oh, the humanity!
hell, i'm laughing right now just imagining it.

The filly crack he made is pretty cute.

I think my retort would have been that BB hasn't faced a colt half as good as the filly that beat Curlin was.

This kind of stuff is much easier to say when your horse will never face Curlin. I'd be shocked if they ever line up in the same starting gate.
