I said that Bernardini was the most talented 3YO ...

... Mayan King is a 4YO ...

... and I categorically stand behind my prediction that ... if he stays sound ... Mayan King will be the 2006 Horse Of The Year.

If you have any doubts ... just watch what happens at Saratoga on August 13.

OK ... it's time once again to tell the "Brunelleschi" story.

When the rich Renaiassance city of Florence decided to build a huge new cathedral ... they held a competition to determine who would be the chief architect.

When it was Brunelleschi's turn to be interviewed by the city council ... he passed an egg around the table ... and asked each council member if he could stand the egg on its end. One by one ... the council members failed to get the egg to stand on its end.

Brunelleschi then took the egg ... cracked it on the table ... and said "There ... now it's standing on its end."

The council members looked at Brunelleschi and said ... "Oh, well ... we could have done that."

And Brunelleschi said to them ... "Yes ... you could have ... but you didn't."

So ... maybe you could have said that Bernardini was the most talented 3YO way back in early March ...

... but you didn't.

try real hard not to sprain your shoulder patting yourself on the back. nothing noisier, and more annoying, than someone who toots their own horn.

Bernardini vs Brunalleschi

I'll take Bernardini. Brunalleschi has been dead for a while, though the dome of the cathedral reminds me of half of a humpty dumpty. He was cracked anyway. Omlets anyone?
Bernardini could spot him 100 yards and win walking on three legs.

Important news??? Duh!! Nobody ever heard of Bernardini...right!
Is it Brunalleschi is designing a new dome for your refrigerator box?
And what's this I hear that your family had to take out a loan on your birthday because the candles cost more than the cake?

Next thing you're going to tell us is that Hank Goldberg was a student in your

Just bumping up this thread as a refresher.

I "discovered" not only Bernardini ... but Songster and Smuggler as well ... long before anyone else knew of them.

And ... I was the first to expose Lost In The Fog ... and to predict Barbaro's breakdown ... and to spot the decline in Funny Cide's capabilities.

Only the unfortunate injuries to the magnificent Mayan King ... prevented a clean sweep.

Why bring these many triumphs up now? Hey ... I didn't ... someone else created the "Bold Predictions" thread.

It's been a long time since we've had a really "great" colt in the U.S. ... let's hope "my horse" ... Bernardini ... can take us there again.

You cannot claim Smuggler, I remember her maiden race in October of 2004, I was at Keeneland and I was watching the Belmont Races...

I made my first public post ... and prediction ... about her ... that she would be the 3YO filly champion ... two hours after the race.

When did you make yours?

Since I was a Keeneland, I was an hour and a half away from a computer, I had to say it aloud approximately 10 seconds after the race....One other note from that race, she was a heavy favorite, some bomb ran 2nd and the Tri paid over a grand....

I'll take your word for it ... but it's not admissable in court ...

... there's no permanent public record of your statement ... but ... my post should be cached over at the "other" site.

As Casey Stengel would say ... "You could look it up."

Smuggler was 3yo champion in a year where no horse deserved it. Definetely wont go down as a great, thats for sure. Could have easily went to Summerly or that Mott filly.

Absolutely correct ... but ...

... Phipps' man-servant shines Smuggler's Eclipse Award every other Thursday.

Need I pull up the thread from ESPN where you didn't even know she raced at Keeneland

this concept of claiming horses on here is odd to say the least.

Also of note: that race was on a Thursday, Commentator won a 3yo listed Stake Race at Keeneland that day...

Until you get some sort of Bernardini license plate, you aren't his biggest fan.

I don't know, maybe the same kind of nerd that would make his license plate an homage to the body of water separating France and England?
