I figured I would have little or no support on the Death Penalty, but here are my reasons..obviously IMO

1) Since the gun lovers always invoke their interpretation of the 2nd Amendment, I think it's reasonable to look at the 8th as well. If killing another person isn't considered "cruel and unusual punishment", I'm not sure what would qualify. And the "eye for an eye" logic doesn't cut it in my mind.

2) The fact that even one innocent person could be put to death, and we all know that many have, is reason enough to ban it.

3) A life sentence in solitary is a much more appropriate penalty and I can honestly say that god forbid I was in a position to have a say in sentencing, that is what I would request.

4) Without the need for appeals, millions and millions would be saved annually and would cover the extra facilities needed to house life without parole prisoners.

that used to be the case... Bush changed the rules though.. HOPEFULLY Bush is the exception, not the rule, or else the Republican party is done for.

OK, so just to clarify -- the death penalty for convicted felons is wrong, but abortion of the unborn, all of whom are innocent by definition, is OK??

I usually stay away from abortion posts because they are very personal choices and I probably should have left it off my original list for that reason. I think anyone opposed to abortion understands (but disagrees) the Pro-Choice opinion/logic so I'll leave it at that.

OK, fair enough -- it is the law of the land, currently, no matter how ill-conceived. I would point out that it's even a more personal matter for the individual being aborted.

By the way -- I would like to see a simplification of the tax code and a scrapping of NAFTA, which just goes to prove that their can be some even between those at opposite ends of the political spectrum.

That was one of the reasons I submitted myself to this excercise...Certainly I'm about as left as there is and you, and others I know here are the opposite politically. But, there are commonalities (?) amongst even the most diverse opinions and I wanted to draw those out a bit without just the usual Dumbocrat and Bush Sucks rhetoric.

Well, this is totally my wish list too, though you took the pro-choice part out probably to try to keep the other topics on point instead of veering off into an all-out abortion war here. Banning the death penalty would be pretty sweet.

Toss that back in, with a disclaimer that extends it into third trimester in certain, reasonable cases (ie those that are not just because someone put it off for 6 months -- which is not a rampant problem as is...) and you've pretty much made my list....I'm assuming your marriage rights assumes DADT was repealed as well, that's something I'm hoping to see.

Very much extreme left. Could dell really be a closet Dem...., or maybe there are alot more of us in the middle...
