Geez I'm on tenderhooks here. This is exciting. I really hope things work out. Sounds like a horse I rode at a lesson barn in college. One of the snuggliest sweethearts ever. Good luck!

UPDATE: From the Chart Footnotes, the horse, Nopie, stumbled at the start, pulled up lame on the far turn and was vanned off.

I have someone who is now becoming a very dear friend working very hard to get more information on Nopie's status. The trainer is not answering his phone and his voicemail is full. Please hope for the best.

I'll keep you updated as I find out more.

Geez, that sucks. Hope Nopie's OK. You're trying to do a great thing.

Nopie is alive but trying to finish the deal and get him home is difficult from 1,200+ miles away. An amazing DTer is helping me by making all of the calls to the track, doing the negotiations and keeping me updated during this stressful time. We've still got a ways to go but there is a light at the end of the tunnel and and ever longer and better story to tell you about this whole experience once it's completed.

Stay tuned...

The Deal is Done! Nopie is coming home to California! First I have to say that Scav (Tom) is an amazing guy - he volunteered to negotiate the deal to get Nopie and ended up making calls to the Racing Office, speaking with the State Vet and keeping me updated on every twist and turn. You can't imagine the stress of not being able to watch the race and then reading the chart that says that your favorite horse was vanned off. I can't thank Tom enough for his help, he is a credit to this forum, to our industry and to mankind Seriously, he was awesome!

We still have a ways to go, we've got to get him in the trailer and home to California. He's going to GEVA, a fabulous equine retirement place that will help get him re-schooled and then we'll find good ol' Nopie a good home where he'll be happy. If anyone was touched by this story, please donate to GEVA, they do great work and I owe them a debt of gratitude (GEVA) - tell 'em Nopie sent ya!

I'll keep you all updated as more developments arise and I'll give more details later of what Tom had to go through to make this happen, once I have time to sort it all out. It's been an amazing day...

Thumbs up Atta Girl! Thanks Tom!

Gawd, what a day! I was in TEARS thinking our Nopie was gonna have to be put down. And now I think I should have a bottle of champagne chilled for when my dear Derbycat gets home....

Thanks, Tom, you helped save the sweetest horse ever. We'll give Nopie carrots, peppermints, and kisses from everybody on this forum.

Thank you DC for the kind words, but really all the credit goes to you for the amazing deed you did today. I am glad I was able to help out and happy that Nopie will be safe.

I have to thank the Nebraska Racing Commission and Fonner Park for helping, Doug the racing secretary and his assistant Wayne were the key to all this coming together.

Lets hope he gets to NoCal safe and sound

Wow you two..... you guys represent everything that's right with the racing world, with the world, with humanity.

It's a beautiful act and truly touching. Nopie is lucky to be so well loved.

Cheers to both of you and wishes for a long and happy life for this special boy.
