![]() and that was for Allen Jerkens too. How could he have not seen that kind of speed in the mornings? To at least try a MSW first?

I saw Samyn, who rode him, right after the race and he told me the horse never showed them anything like that in the morning.

![]() Kelly Kip never showed that much before his first race, not to mention he was by a no name sire and was a Hobeau homebred. Had he shown more he still would have most likely started in a maiden claimer. When he shipped in I had no stall for him so he wound up in Rusty Arnolds ponys stall for awhile.

![]() Kelly Kip sure did love a wet race track ... kind of like almost every horse ever associated with Cannon or any of the Jerkens.
He won his debut in the slop with a 104 Beyer. The second time he caught a sloppy track he won the Sanford Stakes by double digit lengths with a 107 Beyer .. that year's 2yo champion Boston Harbor was 2nd and Say Florida Sandy 3rd. His 3rd time in the slop he went 6fs in 1:14 and change at Saratoga with a 120 Beyer as a 3-year-old. His only career loss on an off race track came in the Bold Ruler where he was 2nd beaten a head with a 112 Beyer. It was his 2nd to last career start at the tailing point of his career and his final numbers were as follows: 92-92-100-112-73 |
