At least we know Jess Jackson is going to run her. And what the hell is with all of the complaints about running her in the Preakness? That was a public workout in the Oaks. Are the same people who complain about horses being prematurely retired or ducking the biggest spots complaining about Jess Jackson owning Rachel Alexandra and running her in the Preakness?

Whether Jackson is talking out of his ass when it comes to breeding stronger and more stamina-oriented horses remains to be seen as well, however, he seems to be one of the few actually talking about it.

It just seems funny to me that Jess Jackson might be the guy that actually does some of the things that racing fans want yet everyone is sickened by him buying Rachel Alexandra.

Absolutely agree..say what you want about his ego, but the guy wants to prove that his horse is better than the others (even if he just bought her). At least Jackson is looking for a challenge while the other major story involving the Preakness this week was a case of idiot owners trying to exclude the horse everyone wants to see run.

Monmouth Park, which opens this weekend, continues to be the best-kept secret in horseracing. It may not have the purses of Saratoga or Belmont or the history of Churchill Downs, but it is one America's best racetracks. A beautiful venue on the picturesque Jersey Shore, it's one of the few places left that has an opening day and a closing day and people still care about live racing.

When the weather gets at its Jersey Shore best in the summer, a day at Monmouth matches a day at any racetrack in America. It's well worth a visit.

It's completely false. Monmouth is a very nice track and I enjoy going their with my boys. But, the racing on most days is not very good. In my opinion it doesn't even belong in the same sentence as Belmont and Saratoga.

Yeah, and no one cares about opening and closing day at Saratoga.

I don't think Rachel just lucked out with small fields. One of the things about being who she is, is you start scaring off the competition. And what's she gonna do? Hit up fields of 3 in the future? Who wants their filly's heart broken? Might've aimed for the Belmont or Travers myself if you want actual competition with less of a tight fit between races but sure, they wanna go for the Preakness it's not that crazy. Poor MTB, he's not so hopeless--for a lil fella he thinks he's hot stuff this week right? Giacomo hit the board, MTB's got his new style and a confidence boost.

Well Jes Jackson said one of the smartest things i have ever heard an owner say a while back...Something to the tune of taking Horse Racing back to the track and away from the breeder's....It may be happening now with the decline in sales and stud fee's. It makes logical sense that horses would race longer if there wasn't such incentives for them to retire. I applaud Jackson on his purchase...Go Rachel....

And his words may mean more if he didnt have a giant commercial breeding operation. Racing Curlin at 4 under murky circumstances and running his new toy in the Preakness hardly establishes a trend. Wanna bet RA is bred next spring?

Amen, I liked Curlin, I liked the fact that he competed in most all top notch races and yes thank you Jess Jackson for making it possible.
